"FLIR's latest Lepton thermal sensor and software that can measure temperatures from -20°C to 400°C and features an HD resolution"

A rather cheeky claim from FLIR: the thermal sensor has a MUCH lower resolution (160x120). The like to advertise the resolution of the visual-light camera it is paired with, as they overlay an edge-detect filter of that view onto the thermal camera image in order to make it appear to resolve finder detail than it is actually capable of.

I'm curious as to what these small FLIR cameras are used for. Engine or component temperature readings? I could see these rugged CATs being used in really rough environments like on drill rigs and anywhere that has harsh winters.

Electronic or hydraulic, if a part is faulty it will inevitable be either much hotter than the rest of the system, or much colder. Thermal IR cameras are a great diagnostic tool for that.
