Obviously they will are marginal. Right now Zen have an high IPC pretty near to the limits with an accaptable power consumption. It will be clocked faster if GloFo will be able to deliver on a brand new Process. About shipment, an early sampling in H2 means a H2/2019 timeframe. The debug takes a lot of time on a server die (one year) and pretty likely it will not be easy for GloFo to ship fast clocked SKUs on a fine process like 10/7nm. Anyway all is on time with the new 10nm+ Xeon on track for H2/2019. Nice neck to neck battle.
AMD was claiming big improvements to Zen 2 vs the moderate gains on Zen+.
Obviously we'll wait and see, but I don't think you should count them out yet. They could probably speed up processing a bit by making the integer pipelines more asymmetric like Intel did, or adding a couple of short pipelines to their existing integer setup for small code.
@0ldman79 when you say marginal that really depends, for example if the changed in infinity fabric to cycle 1:1 with the memory in some applications that could offer a significant performance increase.

Which is great because they are getting to polish the products before they are released. And I have not forgot about the fiasco of AMD being late to release samples to vendors with Zen but I think that was intentional to limit leaks.
I think amd, of historical necessity, have a culture of shuffling resources and timelines fairly freely.
They certainly seem confident of having the 7nm process under control, and they are awash with development cash compared to formerly. It really comes down to where they can apply it first to best commercial advantage.

Yeah we arnt hearing any news like we did for Intel's 10nm. Gloflos 7nm must be coming along nicely.
