Seems more like one-upmanship than a practical device.

Wait, can it be unfolded into a large flat display? Because that would be brilliant!

    no

Maybe one day. Turning a phone into a tablet looks kinda fun. I doubt they'll ever replace laptops though, like some people are wishing for.

Probably can unfold (break) it, but it won't work anymore.

If they do the software well it could be pretty cool.

So this is basically a paper launch, right? All i see are renders of the product but not the product itself.

I don't think this is more of a technological feat than folding screens, it's fixed after all.
But for concept products, a 3 month window from launch to production seems to be a new norm, rather.

At last, a phone you can't hold without generating some touch events!

Getting my partner a Mi Mix 3, they're pretty reasonably priced now.

This, however, is just posturing. Whilst it will be a great phone (almost a full 1" sensor!) it will be a completely over the top great phone.

Like getting a Ferrari gold plated.

Great for showing off, impractical and expensive for actual use. Why spend all that time and effort on developing this thing, instead of, for example, a true heir to the Mi Max line?

"The frame of the phone uses an titanium alloy to ensure that the device is rugged enough."

Uh, yeah, sure. The words "rugged enough" are exactly what springs to mind when I lay eyes on this device. Absolutely.

I think this phone is absolutely amazing and if I could afford one, I would not hesitate to buy it. The animated gifs that they put on the verge showing how the phone works when you turn it over and the charging animation look phenominal. Sadly the price is just about 5 times more than I would be willing to pay for it

So battery life will be crap. Because you have that much more screen with a battery that's no bigger than standard. Hardware undoubtedly with backdoors for data mining by Unit 61398 PLUS an abhorrent battery life? Where do I sign up?

It looks cool - but also entirely impractical. I think Samsung has already gone too far in terms of almost completely getting rid of bezels - there's a significant risk of a dropped phone breaking.

That thing - you can't even put a case on it, and there would be no such thing as a "best side" to drop it on.

    No earphone jack. Not interested.
  • s.yu - Wednesday, October 2, 2019 - link

    Yeah, me neither.
For a pretty thick looking device at least add another C port.

I really love it this phone and really want it!
