I know Anand being late is uncharacteristic, but keep in mind that we have no idea what's going on behind the scenes: Anand could be benching with the HL2 demo, official DET 50.XX and/or CAT 3.8 drivers. Or, since we know from Anand himself that the lab is such a mess, he or Derek could have slipped, hit his head, or cut himself on silicon and needed to be rushed to the ER. Hopefully it's not the latter, but I'm just saying, we never know. It'll be up when it's up.
No offense to any of the hard-working folks at AnandTech, but being a day late with a review of a video card is not something we've come to expect from a "Tier-1" review site. I hope that you guys were able to test with Cat 3.8s or have the NV38 in the test as well, or something. Something to make up for the fact that your review is this late.
Well he said 10 new games added to the test suite, that's quite alot to get through. Most the reviews around are still with the same 5 benchmarks we always see.
"nv thinks they will have improved some of the image quality problems gabe had... "
Does this mean that they got HDR working on the FX? THAT would even out the playing field... I really hope they have got their problems fixed!
I would suggest running both cards @ (visually)similar IQ settings and benchmarking them. Otherwise its not very fair... but we do know the R300 runs dx9 just as good as it runs dx8.1 :)
Be sure to check bilinear/trilinear filtering with and without AF, as it seems the 51.75 Dets have switched entirely to bilinear. Could be another bug, but who knows with nV these days?
of course, among some of the things I've heard through the grape vine, nv thinks they will have improved some of the image quality problems gabe had while at the same time improved frame rate.
we will just have to wait and see when everything is release, and you can be sure we'll be lookin very closely at image quality when the next round of drivers hit the servers.
Hey anand, you were talking about the new detonators that improve performance of the 5900Ultra up to 9800Pro levels. I think the question on everyohnes mind is whther Nvidia can do this without sacrficing Image Quality... wasn't that what Gabe was complaining about?

Or worse: their Radeon 9800XT melted and exploded before their very eyes and they have nothing to bench with...yikes!GTaudiophile - Wednesday, October 1, 2003 - link

Yes, it's not just about FPS. It's about FPS without sacrificing IQ!Also, if rumor is true, Anand should be benchmarking with the CAT 3.8 drivers.

According to theInq, NV38's fan will be quieter than R360's. Also according to theInq, NV36 (FX5700) is a "completely redesigned babe."NVDA may be down (Merrill cut Nvidia to 'sell' today) but they are not out!
