Anyone think the upcoming Grantsdale will be better than Canterwood? And how are we already going to have 16x graphics with PCI technology?

    Excellent

    There is no CD.
  • Anonymous - Thursday, November 27, 2003 - link

I can't uninstall Enter The Matrix. And when I pop in the CDs they don't autorun. When trying to uninstall I get the message: >SetupDLL\SetupDLL.cpp(439) error code -5001

    Someone please help me.

Why aren't any of the team members on tech posting here and informing us of him? There are new articles daily so why are they ignoring us? This is really weird
  • Anonymous - Monday, November 24, 2003 - link

I agree 100% with #112. The thorough reviews are wonderful (and I'm sure a large percentage of the readership enjoys the level of detail), but it's generally just more information that I need. I hope Anand remembers his blog soon.
  • illuminati - Monday, November 24, 2003 - link

I am also disappointed that the weblogs have stopped for the past 30+ days. I was excited to see a more "interactive" section to anandtech... but I am also getting tired of checking and lately this has been the only reason I have been coming to this site... I think his reviews are WAY TOO LONG to actually read... but that's just my opinion on that subject... I know there are a lot of people who do read his reviews word for word... and that is good.

My point is that if the weblogs don't start up again soon, I too will not be visiting much at all.
  • Anonymous - Sunday, November 23, 2003 - link

Well he's been doing fine running things for the past what 9 years?
  • Anonymous - Sunday, November 23, 2003 - link

Anand is still in college. I am, and up until yesterday, I was too busy to sleep or eat or anything like that. I imagine he's got a lot going on too.
  • Anonymous - Saturday, November 22, 2003 - link

    Anand might be dead?
  • Anonymous - Saturday, November 22, 2003 - link

The message is clear!! The comment system has failed!!
  • Anonymous - Saturday, November 22, 2003 - link

Really ever since they blocked Anonymous posting and Anand stopped replying to his web logs this site started getting boring and I don't visit anymore. Sorry anand you lossed one.
  • Anonymous - Saturday, November 22, 2003 - link

Maybe he's doing 1 month on, 1 month off, 1 month on...

If so, it should start again soon!
  • Anonymous - Friday, November 21, 2003 - link

At least he could just type a line saying that he was sick so everyone would know what's going on and people wouldn't have to think that he abandoned his webblog. Why start something when you are never gonna stick to it? I think he is better of doing reviews.
  • Anonymous - Friday, November 21, 2003 - link

If I was sick I know my finger typing muscles would be weak and typing would prolongue the sickness.
  • nastyemu25 - Friday, November 21, 2003 - link

    didnt say he was =(
  • Anonymous - Friday, November 21, 2003 - link

#101, Anand's not using sickness as an excuse.
  • nastyemu25 - Friday, November 21, 2003 - link

30 days with no new stuff from anand
that's gotta be a hell of a sickness
  • Anonymous - Friday, November 21, 2003 - link

Welcome to the one month mark!
  • Anonymous - Friday, November 21, 2003 - link

#98, that's not what I am saying but that is the truth. Most Christians are either Black or White or Asians.
  • Anonymous - Thursday, November 20, 2003 - link

so your saying based on your race thats your religion? good stereotyping
  • Anonymous - Thursday, November 20, 2003 - link

Aren't christians mostly African Americans or White????? If he hated Christians, he wouldn't have hired christian people to work for him.
  • Anonymous - Wednesday, November 19, 2003 - link

Sorry, African and White are races smartass
  • Anonymous - Wednesday, November 19, 2003 - link

African American is a race and not a religion smartass. And why are you stating the obvious? Yes, its his site. And his site is successful because of us. So why make us mad?
  • Anonymous - Wednesday, November 19, 2003 - link

#93, "They are words, if you don't like them don't read them."

It's funny how you say that to someone who owns this site. It's his site so I think he can do whatever he wants. This site wouldn't be here if Anand was a Christian Fundamentalist. He wouldn't have have "White" or "African American" employees working for him.
  • Anonymous - Wednesday, November 19, 2003 - link

The reason why myself and others loved this site and keyword went, to it daily was because I knew I could post questions and read peoples reactions to articles and reviews. It was interesting. Now it just sucks. And people swearing and what have you was amusing. What is Anand a christian fundamentalist? They are words, if you don't like them don't read them.
  • Anonymous - Wednesday, November 19, 2003 - link

Why not have "hot words" and when a tried post with them by anonymous or a registered user is made the ip is banned..
  • Anonymous - Tuesday, November 18, 2003 - link

#90, you might be right but I am sure there must be a good reason for that. There was nothing but flaming and profanity going on in the news posts. Everyone should be talking about hardware/IT industry when here on Anandtech or atleast you can just be nice by not posting a flame message with all the others. I personally AT staff did a good thing but banning anonymous posting because this site was started to turn into trash but now it's all cleaned up.
  • Anonymous - Tuesday, November 18, 2003 - link

Banning anonymous posting has nothing to do with hardware or fast reviews. It has to do with ethics. You put it on your site to be unique and then take it off and bann hotmail and aol and whatever. FING BS
  • Anonymous - Monday, November 17, 2003 - link

I don't know if you guys read the front page news or not but today Anand and the crew reported live from Comdex and they posted that Anand was sick.

It is funny sometimes. You really like this site and Anand and everyone's reviews here. You all believe their reviews but as soon as one thing falls behind you are ready to attack this site. Anandtech is one of the best hardware sites in the world. And they are always one of the first ones to release a review on a product launch date so maybe you guys should be more considerate. Geez...
  • Anonymous - Monday, November 17, 2003 - link

Why does anand have a weblog if he is not going to write in it?
  • Anonymous - Monday, November 17, 2003 - link

He brought it back only not to post. Just to get people to visit the site. Scam Artist
  • Anonymous - Monday, November 17, 2003 - link

where did he go?? did he forget about the weblog feature?? or maybe he switched over to xanga and didn't tell us about it??
  • Anonymous - Sunday, November 16, 2003 - link

Come on Anand. If you want these people to stop arguing, you must post a new entry. :)
  • Anonymous - Sunday, November 16, 2003 - link

  • Anonymous - Sunday, November 16, 2003 - link

    no its 2 guys talking
  • Anonymous - Sunday, November 16, 2003 - link

Is this whole thing just a guy with an account named anonymous talking to himself way too much?
  • Anonymous - Sunday, November 16, 2003 - link

#80, you're not doing a very good job of covering up your infatuation with child pornography.
  • Anonymous - Saturday, November 15, 2003 - link

a weblog has nothing to do with the tech site 79 ur ignorant shut up and go watch kiddie porn
  • HammerFan - Friday, November 14, 2003 - link

do mentions of pornography *really* need to be made on a computer tech site anonymous poster #78? I think not. It's people like you that cuased anonymous posting to be banned.
  • Anonymous - Friday, November 14, 2003 - link

yea i know i won this argument between us #77 so now go home and watch kiddie porn
  • Anonymous - Friday, November 14, 2003 - link

#76, you are retarded. that is all
  • Anonymous - Thursday, November 13, 2003 - link

LMFAO to #75. EVERYONE IN THE WORLD IS AS DUMB AS YOU??? DONT THINK SO!!! Wow what a usless post by this parasite who himself has not even registered with his "kiddie" accounts. I think more like kiddie porn for you. Hotmail has millions upon millions of registered users and even more with AOL. So who in their right mind would pay for an email account? Wow, you just made ANAND look reallllly bad with that post.

Anand thought you were cool bro, but making people pay for their email to sign up with you is not cool

  • Anonymous - Thursday, November 13, 2003 - link

And #72, how idiotic can you be? Have you ever been on the forums before? There are over 123,000 registered members. That's right, people who aren't dumb and actually have email accounts that aren't kiddie accounts like AOL or Hotmail.

And this is exactly why AOL and Hotmail were banned; because 3 year olds like yourself would bring absolutely no valuable information to the forums. If you can't setup a non-freemail account, you don't deserve to use the Internet.
  • Anonymous - Thursday, November 13, 2003 - link

Really #73? Point out EXACTLY where #71 said banning anonymous posting is good?

    Thought so. lol
  • Anonymous - Thursday, November 13, 2003 - link

Whats funny is that #71 is anonymous saying anonymous being banned is good. Hypocrite
  • Anonymous - Thursday, November 13, 2003 - link

anandtech is what it is because of the people who post on the news articles that are made to be posted on.
Now someone like me who has hotmail and hotmail is banned for their stupid reasons has to read posts that are boring and pointless. There are no more in depth arguments or questions posed because someone needs to know the info really bad.
Frankly, this site is boring, 5 -10 posts on each article with people saying "Intel has Failed". How stupid is that. Its not a question or a discussion.
It would be great to post in forums but so many email providers have been banned. How can you ban the most popular and most used ESPs'?
Not to mention Anand hardly and now never posts anything. So people don't know what hes thinking or what was the point of making a blog if you never post on it. The recent articles have been so boring and unreadable. Ridiculous reviews from PC MAG!!!!
THis is why I said its going to its grave which is obviously the case, #70 is just ignorant
  • Anonymous - Thursday, November 13, 2003 - link

    #70,

If you're going to make a comment about AnandTech going to its "grave", at least know what the hell you're talking about.

Anonymous posting was instituted barely 6 months ago. AnandTech was doing fine without it, doing fine with it, and will do fine without it once more now that's it's been banned.

    Get over it.
  • Anonymous - Wednesday, November 12, 2003 - link

Yep, the guy knows banning anonymous posting has brought this site to its grave. And now he is reminiscing and trying to bring it back.
  • Anonymous - Wednesday, November 12, 2003 - link

WOW! Do you guys have to post if you don't have anything to say. Anand must do another blog entry...

i could tell ur brain is very mature saying such a mature comment, if ur mature brain realizes people like u made him ban it
  • Anonymous - Tuesday, November 4, 2003 - link

#53, if your 2 year old brain could understand why then perhaps he wouldn't have done it.
  • Anonymous - Tuesday, November 4, 2003 - link

I never saw lewd ascii art in replies. What are you talking about? BUT Anand did a good thing to nad free hotmail accounts. I have a small site and some people came to it and I was only getting porn threads on my forums. It was crazy.

Whatever happens, Anandtech is still the site of my choice and always will be unless they turn into THG.

For all of those who b!+ch about the elimination of the anon. posting ability: you'd have to be almost impossibly ignorant *not* to see why it was banned. 400 posts on ONE news article? lewd ASCII art? hello? does anyone else see the problem with this?
  • dennis travis - Saturday, November 1, 2003 - link

Jesus, are people really so naive that they don't know that every ISP on the planet includes free email accounts? Come on now, the world isn't just comprised of kiddy AOL accounts for god sakes. Lol

Anand is definitely a genius in this business.

ALL Good ISP's provide Email. Use it. Some of you were not here when AOL was blocked and don't know just how bad it got and how AOL REFUSED to do a thing about it. EVERY other ISP worked with Anand but AOL. They flat out refused to do a thing about their Hackers and Trolls so Anand had to block all AOL IP's. You block just one IP they will come back on another and another. I was here when it all came down and it was a mess.

    As The Blogs Churn
    By Robyn Greenspan
According to Perseus Development Corp., a significant number of Internet users jumped on the blog [define] bandwagon and then jumped off, as the company found that two-thirds of the 3,634 hosted blogs that were surveyed were inactive.
  • Anonymous - Thursday, October 30, 2003 - link

Yes, I'm serious #31, and those companies are ISP's not email providers. You have to pay for all those. And a bunch? 90% of people with email accounts use AOL, HOTMAIL(the biggest), and Yahoo. So, I don't understand this whole abuse issue, but for one I do not abuse anything, and for a couple of stupid people to ruin it for the rest, this is just ridiculous. Why not just ban the IP from posting?

Also, haven't heard much from Anand on this site, so maybe he should set this fury straight?
  • Anonymous - Wednesday, October 29, 2003 - link

#29, yeah, that's unfortunate, but apparently it's a problem that has to do with dynamic IP's and the fact that they can be abused like fremail accounts such as Yahoo! and Hotmail. At least, that's what Jason, the AnandTech webmaster, claimed a few months ago.

#30, are you serious? How about Comcast? SBC? Netzero? There are a bunch.
  • Anonymous - Wednesday, October 29, 2003 - link

#28 if you eliminate yahoo, hotmail, aol what others are there?
  • Anonymous - Wednesday, October 29, 2003 - link

    aol doesnt work either buddy
  • Anonymous - Wednesday, October 29, 2003 - link

#25/26, you clearly don't know much about the Internet if you don't understand that hotmail, yahoo, etc. freemail accounts are abused all the time. All major web sites ban these accounts.

    Duh.
  • orthancstone - Tuesday, October 28, 2003 - link

As a CS major, I can say two things.

One, calculus is important if you need to mathematically prove something (which you sometimes have to do in grad level classes). So while I feel your pain #9, realize it was probably for someone else's sake than your own. Oh well, atleast you learned how to do it all in your calculator if necessary, right? ;)

I find it funny Anand doesn't like CS classes. I'm not too fond of engineering courses so far (that may change) mainly cause I feel like too much relies on using equations instead of focusing on how or why we do things a certain way (such as choosing between options based on which options serve a situation best). On a side note, though, I am getting to do some simulation work in my engineering class, so that definitely makes it more interesting than one of my CS classes...

Luis (#15), the Hewlett-Packard NC6000 and NC8000 fit the bill.

#20, you don't need hard drive cooling. It's fully optional. Also, by PS2, you mean keyboard and mouse, right? You might want a floppy drive, they're optional though. Last, you need a CPU heatsink+fan and case cooling.

And neither of you do this again. It's annoying. Just post it in the general section of any big mostly-friendly forum.

Anand, it can't help that Java is something like a 4.1 on the DNSES (Dr. Nefarious Standardized Evil Scale), or roughly on the same level as Diet Dr. Pepper and the Radeon 7500. At least you don't have to touch C#.
  • Anonymous - Wednesday, October 22, 2003 - link

    Good luck on the exams..

Btw, Anand, please post some pricing information as well as the card reviews.. we heard a lot of rumors about the performance of the 5700U, but did not have single word on the pricing.. (There is also a post about the albatron card that uses DDR2 memory, but I found it a little strange for a regular mainstream card having a 199$ price point)..

Hopefully you do not review a card that really beats 9600XT but has a 100$ more price tag on it..

Looking forward to see the review :-)

    Good luck on exams again..

    Best,

I guess not, since he admits to not really enjoying programming and hated data structures, which is undoubtedly the single most important computer science class anyone would take.

Anand is great at reviewing things and has absolutely amazing industry connections. He runs a stellar website. But let's not title him some engineering / programming genius. He does what he does well, but he isn't a Linux kernel hacker.

Complaining about CSC classes as a Engineering Major? Come on now...back when I was a CompSci major (I'm now doubling in Law and Business/Economics) I could not understand for the LIFE of me why I had to take Physics or Calculus courses. I'm still bitter about all these General Education requirements I have to take. Art? As an IP lawyer, who is really going to care if I cant tell a Picasso from a Monet?

I also know how does that feel...

Right now I'm an exchange student at NC State. My ECE courses are pretty good and have managed to fill my schedule with homework every day... I'm also getting out of my 2nd round of exams, though, so this have been very busy days.

However, I wonder how does life feel when having to attend classes and such a time-consuming job. I'm pretty sure this is all about getting a degree, because by evaluating the quality of the reviews, I could say that Anand can teach some of his professors one thing or two, don't you all think that?

I know how you feel. I go to NCSU as well, and I decided to drop Java 2 because it was taking up so much of my time and it isn't the least bit interesting to me. Luckily since im only doing EE I don't have to take 316.

always a good thing to hear from you Anand :)Do you have your mid-terms coming up? seems a bit late for that... but good luck for them. How many credits are you taking this semester? You shouldn't overload yourself with coursework you know :p
