Anand, Would you really want to live in D.C.? - "No Taxation without Representation? Come on. There seems to be an awful lot of unhappy people over there, although crime has defintely gone down.
I noticed that Anandtech has not reviewed the Asetek Vapochill. Are you guys going to? I am thinking of buying one because it would be a good long term investment. I have read the reviews at [H]ardOCP and xbitlabs, but I wanted the final word from your site. Could you guys please write an article about it, it pros and cons; basically--is it worth the investment?
I live in Adam's Morgan and have this nice love hate relationship going. Great city, great sites, great people, fun town, and everything is in walking distance.
On the flipside, the parking sucks, it's pricey, taxi drivers are ludicrous, the roads are terrible, and crime is high.
Other than that, life in DC (NW DC) is terrific. :) Personally, I really like the fact that there are no tall buildings since there is a height restriction on account of our nation's mighty white marble phallus.
Also, I live on Connecticut, so it's kinda cool to see the loud caravans of official motorcades going by...makes you really feel like you are in the heart of everything on the news.
Oh yeah, about Bhangra Blowout. Well what can I say, every year the show gets better, and every year the parties get worse!
Friday night I went to the pre-party at H20, which wasn't all that. Saturday night I skipped the party and went to Adams Morgan, then heard from friends the next day that the official party ($38 cover) ended early because someone got stabbed and funkmaster flex was late in spinning the hip hop (so it was all bhangra music.)
The show was awesome though! My fave was Michigan, and they won 2nd place I think. The level of competition keeps going up every year. While Duke and Tufts were excellent performers and would have been a lock for grand prize a few years ago, the competition was that much tougher this year.
Whoa, what's really weird is I just drove up to DC on Friday from Chapel Hill with friends for Bhangra Blowout, and I had this slowass driver in front with a Connecticut tag and 'YALE' stickers on her car!! You didn't drive up in Vinney's car, did you? :P
Trust what what xiety says. I'm from Baltimore, MD, north of DC, and the crime and drug problem is awful in DC. The tourist sites you visited are nothing like the rest of the city. Definitely wouldn't suggest living in DC. If you wanted to be nearby but away from all the problems Montgommery County, MD would be excellent. That's where many politicians. Also, they have excellent schools if you're thinking of the future ;).
I am from Blacksburg, VA and a frequent to D.C. Believe me, visiting a city is a lot different than living in it. If they asked me to name a big city which I wouldn't live, it would be D.C.
Crime rate is the highest in U.S., roads are extremely bad, etc, etc. :)
It was at the restaurant at the hotel I was staying at, I don't remember the name but I should have it somewhere at home. I'll try and look when I get back.
Where did you each such good ravioli in Dresden? I work for the German government, so my travels often take me overseas, and I'd like to know where you ate. I'll be in Dresden in July on business.
