Looks like he lost a pretty serious game of bloody knuckles.
That's the same mini wireless keyboard i have and i'm glad it seems to work so well for the W700 when it's docked. I wasn't sure if it was going to be too large to bring around with me, but it should work great.
And idea what kind of graphical capabilities these things will have?
10.1 screen, full keyboard, x86, 574 grams, fanless, stereo speakers, usb, hdmi... This is too good to be true, can't wait to get one. Knowing Acer, I expect to see a friendly price too
First time I have been impressed by Acer. I'm sure they'll find a way to cock it up, but it looked great in the demo. Those hands though what the fsck.
If you like it then you should have also liked the current (can even call it "old" by now) Brazos-based W500. Or the mostly equivalent MSI 110w, which has the advantage of a neat optical trackpad on the bezel.
Unfortunately you are right on your other point though - they already cocked it up. It has no active digitizer and stylus.
And worse, they might have done the same to the W700 too... shame, really.
I read somewhere that we could expect the W510 to be $600 to $800, which I find to be ridiculous. It's a netbook with a IPS touchscreen and a second battery. I really am not sure how they can justify charging that much of a premium over a base netbook price...
Doh...MS doesn't support TB natively citing security concerns. And no Anand, although the Apple fan in you might disagree, TB is not a concern; not sure it will ever be.
I dunno, TB and some great docks would go a long way towards making these things more marketable... As a desktop user I could care less, when I get home my laptop just sits idle or acts as third/fourth screen, but if my sole system was a 10-12" hybrid like this I'd desperately want anything that simplifies docking it to a larger display and ample storage.
I think Anand being a big fan of TB has less to do with him using a Mac and more to do with him using a laptop as his primary system. I would think anyone with a laptop as a primary system would want TB to succeed and get cheaper pronto.
Nobody has come up with a real reason for this tablet to need TB. Simple docking? Already has that - you watched the video right? Mass storage? W700 has USB 3.0. It's got HDMI too. Current TB controllers are also a bit expensive in terms of power and cash money too, IIRC.
I'm not so sure this was a case of MS pressuring them. Why would they? Win8 laptops will have it, I'm sure.
Now if you're going to tell me that you're going to use it as a gaming system, and need TB for an external GPU... I'm going to recommend therapy.
Every other tech site is saying it has thunderbolt port and only anadtech is saying it is not, why is this and is this rumor or been actually been proven to be fact? Not trying to discredit the site just want to know if it has one or not before I order it.
Sorry for the horribly written question I would correct it but the site won't seem to let me. Auto correct plus a screaming child has really thrown a wrench into my post.
Here is a video posted by a Russian who has acquired one showing it having a thunderbolt port ,can someone at Anandtech please clarify if they are absolutely certain that the W700 does not have a thunderbolt port. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VlrwLoJ8Q1I It may not matter to some but I feel is a rather significant port for a slate and would like to know before I buy one. Can someone at Anandtech please find out.

The W700 has an Ivy bridge i5 I believe, so ULV HD4000. Look at the 2012 ultrabooks and you'll get an idea. The W510 uses the Z2580, which has the SGX544MP2 @ 533Mhz. That should have similar performance to the iPad (2012).

That makes little sense to me.MrSpadge - Wednesday, September 12, 2012 - link
"Influenced" is not the same as "forced". However, it could just as well have been plain mammon.ad24 - Tuesday, September 11, 2012 - link

I'd actually think that the standard consumer has barely even started to buy USB 3 devices let alone TB.Alexvrb - Thursday, September 13, 2012 - link
