    Oh, don't use this word. It's disgusting.5
  • AppleCrappleHater2 - Tuesday, September 30, 2014 - link

    Yeah sure:)

    Worship the holy apple.

The apple way, selling over expensive crap to stupid consumers that like to
    get robbed.

This has been a disastrous launch in every respect. The iwatch is such an
ugly piece of crap, it is truly unbelievable how a company, formerly known for
its remarkable design, dares to put out such a crap ton of shit. Some
characteristics are glaringly obvious and inherent to it: over expensive,
hardly innovative, limited functionality and usability (need of an iPhone to
make it work), looks exactly like a toy watch and so on.

There are of course way better smart watches out there, especially from the
likes of Samsung, Sony, Motorola, Asus, LG, simply put, there is no need for
another piece of over expensive junk.

The iPhone 6 is technologically stuck in pre-2011 times, a base model with
a capacity of 16GB without the possibility to use SD cards isn't even funny
anymore. The screen resolution is horrendous, it isn't water proof, shock and
dust resistant, it offers nothing innovative, just some incremental
updates over its predecessor, both lacking severely behind their competitors at
    their respective launch dates.

Now the Iphone 6 Plus offers a „Retina HD“ screen, full 1920x1080p, oh wow,
where have you been for the past 4 years apple, talk about trailing behind.
That’s pathetic. The interesting thing about that is the fact that apple
always manages to sell backwards oriented, outdated crap to its user base, all
while pretending to be an innovative technology leader. The similarities
regarding any form of sectarian cult are striking.

You gotta love how Apple always comes up with new marketing bullshit terms,
aka "Retina HD", with the intention to manipulate its users while preventing easy
comparisons with its competitors by withholding the actual specs. Apparently it’s
not enough to have a 1080p screen, you have to call it "Retina HD" to make those
suckers buy it, otherwise someone could look at the 4K Amoled and Oled screens
form LG and Samsung devices and get outright disappointed. Same goes for
everything else. Every outdated „feature“ needs to get its own marketing label
to persuade buyers with crappy „experience“ and „usability“ ads, while covering
the truth with marketing gibberish, knowing full well that only a fraction of
aforementioned buyers cares to look at the facts and dares to compare them.

Car engines come to mind. For comparisons shake let’s look at a 1.0 liter, turbo
charged petrol engine and a V8 compressor. What’s better should be obvious, but
by calling the former an „ecobooster“, thus giving it a special marketing label,
this joke becomes a „feature“, something positive that can be added tot the list
    of features of a car.

By doing so a negative aspect is transformed into a positive one, the
reality is distorted, non tech savvy buyers are manipulated and comparisons are
made more difficult (another layer of marketing bullshit to overcome), well done
marketing department. You see , if something is seriously lacking (of course for
profit, what else), don’t bother explaining, just give it a nice marketing term, distort
reality, make it a feature and call it a day. Fuck that!!

FACT: Apple has been forced to copy Android in style and size for
years because people abandoned their tired, moribund and fossilized
devices for superior and innovative Android devices.

Steve Jobs said no one should want a 7" tablet until everyone went and bought
Android devices forcing Apple to copycat with the iPad Mini. Apple
didn't think anyone wanted a phone screen larger than a business card
until they all bought Androids thus forcing the arrival this week of the
iPhone Galaxy and iPhone Galaxy Note clone phones.

Swipe down notifications that don't interfere? Copied from Android and WebOS. Siri?
Bought and ruined from a private developer; Google Now crushes it.
3rd-party keyboards? Welcome to 2010, iChumps! Widgets? Welcome to 2009
except you can't place them on your home screen. Live wallpapers and
hidden icons? Maybe Apple will get around to copying those in iOS X in
    2016. Who knows.

Apple lacks creativity and honest people acknowledge it. Steve Jobs gets credited as an
innovator when all he was, was a huckster who'd spot someone else's tech, polish it up nicely,
then slap a gnawed fruit logo on the back, charge a premium price and
wait for the rubes like Jim Smith to hand over their cash like the good
    iSheep they are.

But after that initial iteration, Apple is incapable of actually innovating something new.
They literally cannot make a product until someone else shows them how and they copy it.
They are also unable refine things because they believe to improve is to
admit something was imperfect the first time. (This is why QuickTime 4
had a legendarily terrible UI that was never changed through QT7 a
decade later.) All they can do is make things incrementally thinner or
faster but it's just minor refinements since they can't invest their way
out of a wet paper bag.

    For all their squealing about Retina displays, they never even had a HD display until now;
8th time is the charm, though you need the iPhone Galaxy Note to get the 1080p that many Android
users have had for at least a year and is now considered
bare-minimum spec. At the rate Apple drags along, QHD screens should
arrive in 2018. Maybe. A graphic went around after the reveal comparing
the iPhone Galaxy to the Nexus 4 from 2012. Exactly.

The Apple Iphone 1 and Ipad 1 might have been innovative at their time,
but since then, the bitten apple has been continuously rotting from the inside
outwards, always swarmed by millions of Iworms which regale themselves with its
rotten flesh, not forgetting all other Americans who support apple by means of
their tax dollars to finance its bought US Treasury/Government bond interest rates.

Last but not least, every Apple product includes a direct hotlink to the NSA,
free of charge, something that might make it a good value, after all.

    Ceterum censeo Applem esse delendam.

I tried using Galaxy S3. I really tried. On paper it has everything better -- better screen, better processor, more memory, better camera. A bit like Windows PC -- better processor than Mac, better graphics card, more memory, etc. And then you start using that thing and it crashes. The screen goes black every time you want to click on a number on the keypad. Skype drops calls. To get anything working you need to configure stuff. Install stuff. Yes the hardware is better, At least 33% better. And the software is 90% worse. Why to have a better processor when sliding animation has hiccups when I can have apparently worse hardware with software where sliding just works. I think "just works" is something that Samsung, Android, etc. just don't get. They advertise features bt then you can't even make a call. Because stupid screen goes black. And don't even get me started on the customer service. Samsung customer service compared to Apple's is just none. Zero. Nada.

Android devices are like Porsche 911 (hardware) with horrible driver (software). Apple is more like a bit worse hardware (i.e. Porsche Boxster) with fantastic driver (Schumacher). Guess what at the end of the day Schumacher wins the race!

I don't understand where people get the idea from that android is buggy. My moto G, which is not exactly a high end phone barely ever crashes and reportedly ios actually has more crashes than android
  • beck2050 - Wednesday, October 1, 2014 - link

Exactly! I've had a note 3 for a year of hard duty with no problems at all. Fast and reliable, never crashes. Everything works. Android is from Linux so it functions well. The Note 4 looks awesome, no worries about bending, maps, voice translators, or any of the myriad problems Apple has with its first generation products. I don't care what brand, at the moment Note 4 is the best. BTW I've had a slew of Mac computers.
  • akdj - Thursday, October 2, 2014 - link

I've also got the Note 3. And I'm an iPhone user. The 5s for personal and Note for our business. I love the N3 but I owned the Note 1, begged my way out ( terrible, slow and HORRIBLY buggy UI & hardware). But bought the three. Love it. But it took a while. As a user of both the 5s&N3 fir a year though, it's hard to believe how much 'slicker' the Iphone is. A third the RAM. ½ the processors, clocked at ½ the speed and Asphalt 8 on both, the iPhone lays waste to my Note when it comes to fluency and 'speed'.
Not that the N3 is a slouch but hold on the '4' til we see some data. Indreasing to the 500+PPI zone doesn't help battery life and I'm not sure the GPU power in the SoCs are up to the task in TouchWiz at this point. A dry reboot on my Note and within 30 seconds its eating 2.1+GB RAM! That's insane. And while it's definitely fast and reliable ...and I've not had many 'crashes', there's a huge upside to iOS. And that's the lack of Samsung and AT&T or Verizon bloat. A phenomenal Eco system (I'm a pilot and the second gen mini has replaced my flight bag and kneeboard, damn near 50 pounds on a Beechcraft twin!) for everyone regardless of your tastes, hobbies, or interests.
The 'Play Store' while many routine apps I've got in parity, it's lacking HUGE in creativity, photo and video manipulation, artistry and gaming. Productivity apps like MSOffce or the iWork suite (I've got Docs Pro and several others!), or utilities for carpentry, automotive ...including a BOOMING 3rd party, cottage industry with a MASSIVE amount of peripherals!!! If you're into automotive, your iPhone can plug directly into your vehicle's computer and tune it the way you'd like. I use a GPS dongle that cost about a tenth of what I paid five years ago for similar FAA certified avionics.

Anyway, I guess that's my BIGGEST bitch about my N3. Lack of software. I only look at the UI for a second or two when the phone's on. Then I'm inside an app. Same on the tablets and that's where I feel the weakness is with the 'phablet' sized Android phones. As there are very few tablet optimized apps on Android other than blown up phone UIs, the Note is close, and the 'lack of interest' by the developing folks in that area sucks. iOS on the other hand sports killer apps and a half million give or a take few thousand optimized for one, the other and often both.
As well ...the Note isn't always 'comfortable'. It's big, like the iPhone six plus but it's also thick. There's a significant difference in 'feel' between the two. Hard to explain if you've not held one but I've thought a few times about changing my order :)
  • theduckofdeath - Monday, October 6, 2014 - link

It's not a bonus too have to pay twice for the same app as you have to do on ios if you have a phone and a tablet. Android apps scale intelligently to screen size. Stop praising a huge design failure as an advantage, Apple users.
  • kevin_newell - Thursday, October 9, 2014 - link

Apple has just gotten way to far behind it's competitors in terms of innovation (for example large screens and phone cameras that work well in low light is old news) and user satisfaction (see http://www.consumertop.com/best-phone-guide/ for example).
  • akdj - Wednesday, November 12, 2014 - link

Apparently not much knowledge you hold there when it comes to iOS eh?
Most apps functional on the iPad and iPhone are the same app, price, and put it on as many phones, iPods, pads, mini or maxi...doesn't matter.
No need to 'pay twice'. That went away a long time ago. There's still a couple apps that continue this model but they're few and far between. You apparently didn't read anything I actually posted, so again...as an owner of BOTH Android (Note 3) & iOS (iPhone 6+ & iPads aplenty, Nexus 7.1 & .2, original Xoom and a ½ dozen other unmemorable units collecting dust).
When it comes to tablet, ph able or 'large' display apps and software, NOT phone sized UIs, iOS SMOKES Android's pathetic tablet and phablet market! Just. Destroys. It.
That said, TWiz for the hate it gets actually DOES offer OEM provided software to make use of the display, digitizer and a ½ dozen slick, note taking apps. After that, I have just as good luck and a smoother experience using a $2 stylus on the iPad with Autodesk, VooDoo Pad and the ilk
Anything creative ...photography, videography, art (draw, sketch, paint, CAD or home design, the list goes on forever)--- to media, it's organization and delivery...ease of use by family members even before family sharing ...CERTAINLY no reason to 'buy an app or pay twice'...
...as usually I find the iOS 'version' even if it's a Google App! ...to be more functional, fluent and 'capable' than I do on my Android with double to cores @ twice the clock speed and three times the RAM (2.1 GB being used immediately from a cold start and JUST by running carrier and OEM bloat in the background you, me, nor anyone I know, needs!)
Users of technology that don't get it ....

Android is buggy, very buggy. Also, it's the only mobile OS right now that is riddled with malicious software and viruses. All because of those bugs. It's a side effect of the open architecture. Open is great for some, but for most it's a bad thing, very bad in the case of a SmartPhone.

I support hundreds of users and their devices. I get calls 10 times more often on Android phones than I do on iPhone or Windows Phones. Yes, android is buggy.
  • flutberf - Wednesday, October 1, 2014 - link

Android is incredibly secure. The only possible way it can get a "virus" (which on an android cannot happen anyway because of the permission system) is if someone disables 3rd party apk installs and downloads an app outside of the Play Store. Android being "open" has nothing to do with it.

Also, maybe you get 10 times more calls for android phones than others because they have the vast majority of the market share?
  • Marthisdil - Thursday, October 2, 2014 - link

Right - because IOS has been able to be jailbroken via software since the beginning of time...

IOS could have those similar bugs, especially once jailbroken...

I support hundreds of users and their devices, too. I get more calls on iphones than android phones.

    yes, crapple sucks.

    do i win now?
  • akdj - Wednesday, November 12, 2014 - link

    'do i win now?'
    Or Do I win now?
Neither. iPhones outsell their flagship android counterparts many MANY times over. Most Android handsets are free, pay by the minute or 'tracphones'.
I love my Note 3. I've huge respect for what HTC, LC, Samsung...now, even Oppo. A name I thought only I was familiar with as an audio/video geek! ...HUGE Respect for each of their products, design choices in some cases are skeptical but the innovation that's 'pushed' BOTH Sammy and Apple to innovate, stay 'in front' of each other with the SoC races and THIS is a GOOD thing
    A) you're either full of it, servicing Apple's 'hundreds of users and their devices too...and (sic) getting more support calls on iOS than Android' ...how would I know?
You're dealing with 'jail breakers' or those that brick their shit doing what they don't know how to, shouldn't be attempting and you're the only one that'll help them. Apple doesn't support jailbreaking their OS. Lotsa work goes into iOS, the App Store and payment to its developers. No reason they should. As well, jail breaking is essentially a thing of the past. iOS 8's capabilities far exceed Cydia's enticing possibilities earlier in iOS's life cycle. These days not much compelling other than side loading, screwing your device up or 'stealing' software.
None of which most buyers of an iPhone or iPad are interested in doing ...or should j say most?
Apple supports Apple. Not you. IF you're an IT manager and are operating a 'mixed' BYOD business, it's all about YOU. What you're using as your 'mainframe' (Linux? Windows? OS X?) & how you're allowing access to said workplace from outside or via VPN
I've owned every iPhone. A dozen Android phones and tabs and can honestly declare your post bullshit. Other than driving over, diving into water with, or blatantly destroying your device using software hacks/jailbreak methods beyond your scope of wisdom are all dumb, foolish things to do to a thousand dollar computer.
Why would you do it with your thousand dollar phone ...that IS a computer?
  • nerd1 - Wednesday, October 1, 2014 - link

Had iPhone 3gs and iPad 1. Now using android flawlessly (been through from 1.6 to 4.4)
I just don't understand why people keep saying android is buggy. Apple devices were in fact more buggy to me (sudden app crashing, 'infinite apple logo' booting issues, freezing from now and then) and I had to jailbreak it to make it any useful, which brought even more bugs and issues.

Common sense - if android is too buggy to even make a call, nobody will buy android. Period.
  • moose0422 - Thursday, October 2, 2014 - link

I mean maybe it was just the phone I bought but Android is buggy. My Moto X wasn't the highest specced phone out there but the fact that it virtually ran the stock Android experience was what brought me to the platform. I unexpectedly became so frustrated with the OS that I had to go back to the iPhone. Between the lag, the crashing of apps, the unresponsive keyboard and random reboots I just couldn't take it anymore. Believe me I loved a lot about what Android offers. It has great features that iOS can't compete with but the overall experience just isn't the same.
  • moose0422 - Thursday, October 2, 2014 - link

I had the 2013 Moto X and let me tell you it was an awful experience. It was the second android phone I've purchased, the first being the Samsung Captivate, and it randomly rebooted, apps crashed constantly, and the battery life was terrible. There were plenty of cool features on the phone such as Active Display, but the constant nagging of the bugs I encountered really made me hate the platform. I was an iPhone user pretty much since it was released and just recently went back to the iPhone 6 and couldn't be happier. The type of bugs I came upon just don't exist on iOS (even though it does suffer from some they are not nearly as annoying as those on Android 4.4.4). I'm hoping that Android L fixes a lot of those because the OS has a lot going for it in terms of being so open and customizable, but I was hardly impressed with my experience on KitKat and I feel that Google has lost me as a customer for foreseeable future.
  • kmmatney - Thursday, October 2, 2014 - link

I used iPhone for 4 years, and now an Android phone for the last year. My Android phone (high end) has had a lot of bugs - serious things like not having it pause for 10-15 seconds between every word while trying to type an email (using default client). It wasn't until about a month ago that updates to Kitkat finally solved most of the issues. If I was at 2 years, I'd already have an iPhone 6+, but I'm too cheap to pay an early upgrade penalty, or buy one outright. I'm too cheap to even have a smartphone, but my work pays for the service, I just pay the subsidized phone cost. So after a year my phone finally works OK. My Nook HD+, on the other hand, well that's just buggy.
  • OCedHrt - Thursday, October 2, 2014 - link

Because iOS doesn't show an error message when an app crashes ;)
  • coldpower27 - Wednesday, October 1, 2014 - link

Yeah I had the S3 and switched to the iPhone 5, a much smoother overall phone. Android doesn't really come into it's own until you reach Samsung S4 and it's derivatives, and basically Note 2 and on. Android needs Quad Core for smooth operation on Samsung.

If your using stock Android, the Nexus 4/5 has been a solid phone, though those are cheap phones and not really meant to compete with iPhone.
  • Narg - Wednesday, October 1, 2014 - link

I try so hard to convince people that if they need a cheap phone, stay away from Android. A good cheaper Nokia is a so much better experience. Android just doesn't work well on so many devices.
  • moose0422 - Thursday, October 2, 2014 - link

Agreed, I would much rather own a Windows Phone in the future over another Android device. I feel like Windows Phone offers an experience comparable to iOS, while different, that is still extremely stable.
  • nerd1 - Wednesday, October 1, 2014 - link

iPhone is a cheap phone using cheap, last-gen components.
  • akdj - Thursday, October 2, 2014 - link

Maybe the opposite? Had to be pretty cheap to develop the first 64bit SoC. Definitely 'last-gen'. Just as Quallcom executives. Every compared Touch ID to ANY implementation on an Android device? Why does my 5s SMOKE my Note 3 playing Asphalt 8 or even Temple Run? It's got half the cores, at half the clock speed with a third the RAM!? Hmmm

  • jimbo2779 - Thursday, October 2, 2014 - link

While I agree with some of your post it is important to note that the 5S has a tiny low res screen where the note is running a much higher resolution. So the note is having to process a much larger image, the note 3 has almost 3x the pixels to push that the iPhone does it should be able to run much faster it is doing a third of the work.

Also all of your talk about cores and ram etc are largely moot when talking about games as games have always been a predominantly single process heavy task so they do not benefit from the multiple cores but other types of apps will. Also more cores allow more tasks to run in the background without affecting performance of UI based tasks.

Most US models of the note 3 came with an Exynos chip at 1.9GHz where the iPhone 5S comes with a 1.3GHz A7, basic maths tells me this is hardly half.
  • Berenz - Thursday, October 9, 2014 - link

Pretty much every benchmark shows that iphone is better. I'm not an Apple fanboy, I've used multiple iphones and android devices over the years. One thing all androids have in common is they are built like toys. Plasticy and break easily. I have no idea why anyone would pay the same price for a Galaxy compared to iphone.
I think Android makes a lot more sense as a tablet. Tablets behave more like PC, Androids give you that PC like freedom.

Browser performance is single threaded testing and obviously favors higher-clocked low-core APs (or apple devices). Also don't forget that anandtech is always using chrome browser for testing android browser performace, which is almost twice slower than samsung's stock browsers - and they are using highly optimized Safari for testing apples. Totally not fair.

Did you not read any of the article? The review on the '6'? This A8 is top of the heap. Browsers. Computationally. Graphically. While not always number one, it's in the top two or three in every bench performed including GB3/Kraken/Octane. Not to mention the display accuracy, battery efficiency and ...well, yeah. Totally. Have you ever watched someone do a really terrible job at something, then turned around and learned from those mistakes and built something better? That's what Apple is doing. It's actually quite genius. They watch Samsung, HTC and LG fail in certain areas as they pump out the next pointless device which a few thousand people will buy, just to struggle to compete. Meanwhile, using an OS which is fragmented to its core, and reminiscent of Windows Mobile <=6.5. Google makes it, HTC modifies it and ruins it (just like they always did with windows mobile), and unfortunately community roms aren't much better because they lack QA. Buggy, susceptible to malware, but wide open and capable of doing more.

As for copying and saying Apple has no innovation, what's with Samsung suddenly copying the fingerprint reader in the home button? What about the fact that Apple is first to have 64bit architecture? All the rest are eons behind, and STILL haven't released any devices with 64bit. It's no longer 2005. They all copy each other in order to compete, and that's what makes ALL DEVICES better. The sooner you get that through your head, and past those ugly blinders you're wearing, the better.

When you directly compare Samsung flagship phones to Apple phones, they constantly one-up each other. You'd know that if you actually paid attention to the raw tests done here at Anandtech. The S5 beat the iPhone 5S and the iPhone 6 destroys the S5 (except in physics category). It's a leap-frog game, and one you clearly can't see because of those aforementioned blinders.

Over-expensive? All other device types aside, when you compare prices with Samsung, LG and HTC, Apple is quite competitive. Not quite so in the tablet market, but phones are competitive. They are all $199 with a contract, and most of them start in the $650 range for full price.

Why is it you believe everyone needs more than 16GB. There are plenty of people out there who wouldn't care about more space. Apple caters to those people and provides a $100 cheaper phone for that reason. They know the market, and you obviously don't.

As for pixel density, who gives a crap which has a higher pixel density considering that 100% of people can't see the individual pixels anyway. I've got 20/15 vision and have never had a complaint about any retina screen being too low resolution. That's just a specs game that iHaters are quick to exploit, and it's something that makes it clear that you don't actually know what you're talking about when it really comes down to it. The only thing you actually got right about the screen is the superiority of OLED over standard LCD (even IPS). Any idea what a larger, and unnecessary, resolution does for the phone? It uses more power, which equals less battery life. Especially when you're talking about a backlit screen. There is simply no need to have a higher resolution screen when it's unnecessary. Pushing for a higher resolution and convincing consumers that it's so necessary, is just as stupid as attaching a marketing term like retina display. They are the same thing, but your brlinders don't allow you to see it. I mean, "Super AMOLED" is a Samsung marketing term. There's not even a reason to have the AM because OLED is, by default, Active Matrix. Yet for some reason, you don't realize this because of your blinders. Don't forget that OLED screens tent to deteriorate faster than an LCD, meaning that iPhone displays will outlast Samsung's. And nevermind that Samsung makes over 90% of OLED phone displays in existence today, and they can barely keep up with their own demand for screens. Adding another several million displays doesn't help that matter. The supply and manufacturing chain must be developed first.

Now, let's take a look at the differences between Samsung's flashy new phone, the Galaxy Note 4. OMG, a fingerprint reader! That's it, aside from a processor upgrade. There's nothing else to the phone aside from the basic updates. It's like the update from the iPhone 5 to the 5S. But you'd never in a million years admit that it's EXACTLY THE SAME THING APPLE DOES, because of, again, the blinders.

I am not dissing Android or Android phones, because Android is an awesome OS with its own faults just like iOS and WP. They are all the same. There is nothing special about what Samsung, HTC and LG do. Just like there's really nothing special about what Apple does. Unfortunately, you're so one-sided that your blinders don't allow you to see that they are all the same, and that the competion between them is exactly what we need and want. Apple gives you better Android phones, and Android phones give iPhone users better iPhones. They are all innovative, and they all have awesome ideas that are better than the other side of the fence.

As I always say, anyone who says one platform is clearly better than the other (other than saying it's better specifically, and only, for themselves), doesn't know wtf they're talking about. You're one of "those people".

What a load of BS. Apple is milking customers by not providing memory expansion option (64GB microSD now costs as little as $30, and it will be even cheaper!), and NEVER ever lowers the prices of their device for a whole year. All other OEMs offer cheaper devices from the start, even cheaper with memory expansion, and that gets even more cheaper as time goes by.
And apple has the worst hardware - iPhone 6 has worse display than $300 phones, and 1GB of ram is just downright laughable in 2014. Oh there IS passive matrix OLED by the way.

Compare two keynotes from samsung and apple. Sammy showed WQHD OLED, new pen with 2048 levels of sensitivity and tilt sensing, new larger and higher resolution front and back cameras, curved screen, and finally portable VR device presented by god damn John Carmack himself.

Was that ANYTHING new with the apple keynote? Absolutely nothing. And their iPhone 6 plus offers basically nothing new over standard phone (sammy has active pen and multi-screen multitasking for example)
  • akdj - Thursday, October 2, 2014 - link

You'd do yourself a favor reading bitNine's response to you. Or learning before speaking. Apple released a new CODE! (Swift), a low level code and OpenGL ES overhead elimator (Metal), integrated iOS and OS X with Handoff and Continuity and contrary to your ridiculous OLED fantasies and ignorance about iphone 6's display (or the actual review itself, did you read it?), it's the Best in the Business Bud!
I love my Note. Love my iPhone. Dig my iPad and enjoy my HP 2in1. Don't be a DBag and preach from one side of the fence. Jump it and open your mind.
    You sound ridiculous (or 13).

The vast majority of Chinese will want the iPhone 6 Plus - in gold. Samsung is dead to the Chinese.
To any wealthy and upper middle class Chinese, the iPhone is the only worthy phone to get. Xiaomi, Lenovo, and other Chinese tigers make up the bottom half. And Samsung is nowhere to be seen. The larger iPhone 6 Plus completely eliminates the need for a Samsung phone.

Why would anyone get a fake iPhone when you can get a real iPhone instead?

Androids are just lower quality iPhones. They don't innovate like Apple does and Android vendors just try to copy and cheapen, but they can't get the quality right. That is why their products are horrible to use compared to iPhones.

Again, if you're gonna get a smartphone, get a real iPhone instead of a fake one with Android in it.
  • JeffFlanagan - Tuesday, September 30, 2014 - link

  • vFunct - Tuesday, September 30, 2014 - link

Well, the article does say that this is the best on the market, so there goes your argument there.

You would do well to remove your Android bias.

Remember, Apple invented the modern smartphone. Everything else is just a lower-quality imitator, with Android devices always trying to play catch-up on Apple's innovation.

Again, if you want an iPhone, just get a real iPhone.. you don't need to get a fake iPhone like any of those Android devices.

I own a Sony Xperia Z1s. Here are the things it has over the iPhone 6 right now:
    - Waterproofing
    - 1080p screen
    - Android 4.4 (it might seem foreign to you, but I like android more than iOS)
    - 5" screen (Perfect compromise between the 6 and 6+)
    - Superior build quality

There are reasons to buy an Android that an iPhone cannot match.
  • mactricity - Tuesday, September 30, 2014 - link

I think you both project and protest too much. Obviously, you envy the walled garden since you are so dismissive of it. Does Apple copy? Sure. Does Android copy? Sure (see: TouchID and Siri). You have something like 1000 words about displays. If the phone were just a display for watching things, then yes, it means a lot. But I have a TV for a reason. My phone is not my TV. Will my movies look as good on an iPhone 6 as the latest Android? Maybe not. Is the resolution better? Not in some cases. The point is that my phone is not my main media consumption device.

I prefer the ease of use of the software and hardware marriage that Apple pulls off. My stuff works. Is the software as customizable as Android? No. But I don't suffer from the rash of spyware and malware that Android suffers from. We could talk about the NSA, but then you live in a glass house.

Putting Latin at the end does not make you smarter nor your opinion more valid.
  • twtech - Wednesday, October 1, 2014 - link

Whatever works for you. But if you stick to Google Play for your apps, you're not going to end up with a bunch of malware on your device. I've never had any malware on any of mine in the past 5+ years.

The biggest can't-live-without Android customization feature for me? The keyboard. I can type fast enough using the Messagease onscreen keyboard to be able to comfortably make posts like this one without feeling frustrated by the slowness (approx 35 wpm).

The default keyboards (unchangeable on iOS) are a small virtual emulation of a physical keyboard originally designed for use with a mechanical typewriter. Messagease - despite the somewhat dorky name - is designed from the ground up as a keyboard for touchscreens.

I've always wondered why some people spend so much time and energy to prove how much they hate a product. Frankly, no one cares about your rant in the end. People will still buy what they want, whether if it's made by Apple or Samsung, or whoever. Apple will still make their money whether you bash their products or not as will other manufacturers.

Here's a tip that will save you time and energy in the future; if you don't like Apple's product, don't buy it. It's a novel concept, I realize, but it actually does work..

You should probably consider seeking professional help. It's not healthy to obsess over things that cause you so much distress and negative feelings. I can imagine you reading this article filling up with weird rage at the benchmark results and then unloading your feelings of inadequacy in this comment. I'm not saying this to be rude or make fun of you but just to maybe help you confront the problem. Sometimes people don't realize they need help unless others show some concern about odd behaviors that the person may have come to believe are normal. To that point my comment is not only directed at you but all the folks who might be reading this that have such intensely strong negative obsessions about technology products. This is not normal. It's often a result of a person choosing some random thing to (mis)direct their emotional problems at. Its a coping mechanism to avoid dealing with the real emotional issues. If this sounds familiar to you please seek professional help before it consumes you to the point where we hear about you killing a bunch of people at an Apple store because you're just so outraged over a new SoC that you snap.

Did you read the article (you do know how to read numbers and graphs I hope) and notice that iPhones totally dominate every display statistic and the Samsung S5 lags behind two prior generations of Apple iPhones and the iPhone 6 is so far ahead that Samsuck may never catch up.

I noticed you conveniently forgot about the 64bit Processor that runs at 1GHz lower speed on only two cores but is still faster than the Quad core junk that Android uses and oh yeah the battery life is significantly better and thats on a much smaller battery. Yeah no innovation there, Apple is really falling behind. In terms of memory the iPhone 6 comes in 16, 64, and 128GB - no need for some extra RAM modules because Samsuck decided to cheapen out and only include 32GB.

You Sumsuck troll just go away and play with your me too devices from the copy cat foreigners and come here and tell us when Samsunk/Android actually invents something significant or innovative - remember the tilt to scroll feature (HaHa what a piece of crap and they let be seen by the public). There's really no where to start, other than your 'name' with your falsehoods and reek of 'Android Zealot/Evangelist' attempting to discredit today's BEST option for a 'phone' ...rather pocket computer on the maket. Period. Silly. Silly. Man. Apparently there were about ten million 'idiots' in the first 72 hours ....and probably triple that today that see things a bit differently. Including myself and I'm ambidextrous. Note 3 for my personal business. 5s as my personal phone. Still have the original Xoom and a pair of Nexus 7s collecting dust. Why? No one wants them. They're worth nothing.
iPhones on the other hand? I've owned em all. I've got a pair of sixes on order. My wife wants the larger, 6+, myself the standard. You're so incredibly wrong about literally EVERYTHING you've said it's impossible to even get started without laughing myself to sleep.

Thanks for the incredible reviews. I've just finished the '+' addendum and I'm excited. Delivery date through my 'business rep' ordered the 'launch day' albeit in the afternoon is sometime between November 3-29th I think ...lol.

...and then the conspiracy theory. Apple is a business. If you had a million dollars you'd managed to save from your 'worldwide' business ...and one of the countries you do business in, your home country wants to tax it at a 40% rate to 'bring it home', WTF would YOU do? Forget s million. How about 200 billion? While still a helluva lot of cash, $80b is a big F'ING check to write to help our dumbass spend their government recover interest rates and bonds. Juvenile.

    Get outta mom's basement
    Let the spider go
    Get some sunshine
Don't buy an iPhone. You'll 'enjoy' it and forget all about defending it. Too much fun 'using' it. And when you're done you can actually 'sell' it. Unlike ANY Android device I've owned! Not just sell it, but typically recover your subsidy payment, often up to 50% more selling locally! Try that with an LG G2, Note 2 or an S3/4. They gave me a hundred bucks when I turned my Note ones in and update to the Threes. AT&T did. No one else would
Record busting weekend. So much so, I ordered a couple for the business as we provide 17 employee phones, and I upgrade my wife and I. Ordered it launch day, lucky to get it before turkey day!
    What. A. BUST!

Ignorance is bliss I guess. Unreal

PS. I forgot to see who did the review, but thank you again to the Team! Very well done, both reviews. As always, not rushed. Detailed. Objective and subjective as well, from the POV of a daily Android user made it all the more enjoyable as I guess I just don't 'get it'.
Generational maybe? We had baseballs and bats. Bikes and 'jumps' when I was a kid. I was in my second year of graduate school when I got my first massive brick for a cell phone. You could talk maybe an hour before you had to re-charge it. No texting. Monochrome (or whatever Orange on black is;)). And a buck a minute to chat. And I'm young. I think! @46 I'm astounded by these (obviously 'paid') schills spewing their bullshit after such an incredibly written and informative piece

To take an entire page and not ONCE reference the review or data. Just. Pure. Vitriol.

    1) Enhance our iSheep's ability to enjoy a panoramic perspective, to be able to make "Panoramas" without moving the iPhone or needing any third party software.

    2) We wanted to compete with curved screen models form LG, Motorola and Samsung, mainly offered in their domestic markets.

    4) It is our firm belief and intention to surprise Samsung and LG by showing that we are capable of having an edged display in our phones without actually having one, all for
the purpose of trashing their new curved display phones and offering you a new, well hidden, feature.

    5) Last but not the least, we want to sell more replacement screens (remember, screen replacement prices were already provided before our new iPhone launch event took place
(in anticipation of it:), of course thats's a feature, feel free to exchange displays now:)).

More money leads to more attractive innovations like this special iBend (Registered Trademark, Patend Pending) feature you guys will be blessed with, as usual.

Meh, I don't get why people are so in one camp or another. Both camps are making fantastic phones and a consumer won't go wrong by buying either a leading or even a mid-range device.

As for Apple bashing, I think it got old years even decades ago. The fact is that iPhone would be largely the same device it is now (albeit with a smaller screen size still) without Android being developed. The same can't be said for the other way around. Fandroid pick a handful of great features taken by Apple from Android or 3rd parties while ignoring the fact that Android is copied almost verbatim from iPhone thousands of features including the entire concept. Just look at where Android was before iPhone launched. It looked like BlackBerry. There is a reason Goodle were able to copy quickly including Eric Schmitt (Google CEO) being on the Apple board and Andy Rubin (Head of Android at Goodle) having worked on Apple's earlier devices including the Newton (5" screen, stylus input, wireless, email, etc all 20+ years before current phablets.

As for spec, well, the stats speak for themselves. iPhones smoke the competition in almost every aspect by a big margin. However, my bargain Moto G (2nd gen) is still super smooth and feels almost as responsive as my iPhone 6.

The screen res argument is one of the most flawed ones I've seen yet. The thing that's important in a screen a high-enough res to not be able to see pixels (which is around 330ppi). Any higher and all you do is slow GPU and drain battery. Look at the frame rate of any higher res device on speed tests - they just crawl.

Yes, iPhones cost a load more but then Apple are the only manufacturer making a profit on their phones apart from Samsung who have just announced a 60% drop in profits warning. At some point, innovation will slow if companies can't make a profit. Currently it's a race for market share and brand position but Samsung has seen that they have very little customer loyalty and their customers will happily move to Sony, LG, OnePlus, Moto or a host of Chinese competitors. This is great for consumers in the short term but I'm not so sure long term.

I'm curious about the NSA "hotlink" comment. I've never heard any substantiated source claiming Apple have collaborated with the NSA at any point. This is not the same for other organisations.
  • CR2 - Wednesday, October 15, 2014 - link

There are great, really great Android products to choose from. In fact I may very well switch over and buy one on my next phone upgrade. It does not make Apple products somehow stuck as you say in 2011 technology. Apple is different than Android. Cadillac is different than Lincoln. There are a few, I admit important things that the Android products do that Apple doesn't, however the opposite is also true.

The biggest difference might be the business philosophy of Apple versus Android manufacturers. You are correct that as a whole Apple is not always the first to introduce a feature. Of course in the case of fingerprint id, and a Total integrateds phone based payment system they were first.

The payment system highlights a fundamental difference in the 2 approaches to the market. Should the payment platform work it will over time have a big impact on how people pay for items and the security of that process. It is a much better collection and use of resources, with banks, credit card companies and the Android introduced NFC technology that combines for a perhaps better payment experience. (and you know that Apple has long known about NFC- but chose what might be a more powerful and profitable way to use it)

Don't discount profit as it the biggest difference in the phone debate. Like it or not Apple is making lots of money.

I find the venom that I often see on both sides laughable. And the envy that Apple generates because of the buzz for seemingly me to products is funny as well. On the flip side it really is a social question mark why Apple fans camp out, wait in line and spend countless time waiting when you can go online and get er done much easier! Perhaps it's a every 2 year party???

So enjoy the difference, it gives us choice, it makes both platforms drive each other to be better and both camps can enjoy the results. In other words don't hate, celebrate.

Why do seemingly intelligent people go and ruin their somewhat legitimate tirades by throwing in asinine hearsay?

@AppleCrappleHater2, please tell me that you at least had a template that just needed some minor revision for this particular anti-Apple novella. I would hate to think you actually took time to write that in full just to post here. How disappointed you'll be to find out that it probably changed the minds of approximately zero people. Of course, that's the problem, isn't it? You don't have the self-control to make a legitimate point without throwing in the inflammatory (and in several cases above, erroneous) commentary that appears to be the trademark of every hyped-up lackey (both Android and Apple) here.

As someone who is generally supportive of the Android architecture, and the wide array of devices on the market that support it, I feel justified in my conclusion:

    You're an embarrassment.

Calling the iPhone 6 Plus the best phablet is hollow and worthless when you dont consider all the phablets on the market.

The Nokia Lumia 1520 is hands down better than the iPhone 6 Plus. Sure its biggest weakness is the app store but it more than makes up for it in camera, battery life, bundled Nokia apps (camera, navigation, etc...).
  • Mayuyu - Tuesday, September 30, 2014 - link

As a Nokia Lumia 925 user, I don't understand how the Nokia apps bundle is a positive. Here maps sucks. Sure it will take you from point a to point b, provided you know the address of the place you are going to. The search engine is just primitive compared to google. The traffic data is not accurate compared to Google maps.

The camera app doesn't even have a HDR mode.

What other Nokia apps are there? Music? I honestly rather have better 3rd party music apps.
  • ricardodawkins - Tuesday, September 30, 2014 - link

The best phablet is the Note 3 with its stylus. Nokia Lumia 1520 (my next phone) size is underused thanks to WP 8.1 as in the iPhone 6 Plus with iOS.

Agreed. Many households that will be purchasing a 6+ will also have an iPad. When coming home from work to grab dinner before heading out again, I often will use my iPad charger to get a quick half hour of charge on my phone.

  • solipsism - Tuesday, September 30, 2014 - link

It's a ridiculous comment without some oddball scenario where that time is somehow tied to directly waiting for it to charge, which isn't likely the case, especially now with a longer lasting battery.
  • SirKnobsworth - Tuesday, September 30, 2014 - link

Consumer reports - the best PR spin source since 1999.

Where did they purchase their unit - or was it cherry picked by apple? Nowhere in the report is it listed where they got their sample, only that they have a sample that they tested. I know someone with a deformed 6+ that I can most assuredly tell you that they did not intentionally do so. Funny how consumer reports was so swift to counter claims about the bending issue... Something here stinks
  • solipsism - Tuesday, September 30, 2014 - link

  • Alexey291 - Tuesday, September 30, 2014 - link

well CR has stated that IP6+ bends under what? 60lb's of force applied at dead center of the phone. Which compares to roughly 100+ (130 seems to be the usual number) lbs of force required to bend or damage other devices.

I agree CR isn't in apple's pocket. They just gently on apple's parade. Gentle like

    Two quotes:
"It's also important to note that the iPhone 6 Plus is rendering at 2208x1242 internally in order to keep proper scaling with the 163 points per inch system that iOS has, which accounts for part of the performance delta."
    and
"The use of the 2208x1242 resolution with downscaling..."

Why would the iPhone 6 Plus render at such a high resolution?
How much of performance hit is taken due to this extra unused rendering?

There is also not much info on graphics performance in general. With the 6+ having 2.07x as many pixels as the 6, but the same GPU, I would expect it to take a huge graphics performance hit.
Can you comment on this? Perhaps there is some data in the iPhone 6 review - I haven't read that yet.

    Thank you.
  • uhuznaa - Tuesday, September 30, 2014 - link

The downscaling happens in specialized hardware right on the SoC (much like video decoding), shouldn't have much (if any) impact on performance.
  • solipsism - Tuesday, September 30, 2014 - link

Has he mentions, to keep proper scaling. The Retina devices scaled at 2x, this scales at 3x. 2208x1242 is a perfect 3x scaling, but that physical display (probably for multiple reasons) wasn't viable at this time for the device.

there should be no entity too powerful and influential to call out. permanent deformation in real-world situations is a legitimate concern.

  • joe_dude - Tuesday, September 30, 2014 - link

Joshua, you guys really need to investigate bendgate before recommending it. Is it a real issue?? The CR test is the same one used by Apple that failed to find the problem. The Unbox Therapy video showed the 6+ was bent with minimal force at the weak spot. Heck, 10 year old kids could bend it. Anand is gone, but we still come here for a thorough review.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gJ3Ds6uf0Yg
  • Parhel - Tuesday, September 30, 2014 - link

A manufactured scandal if ever there was one. Just wait until the "will it blend" videos start popping up. Then we can have blendergate.
  • joe_dude - Tuesday, September 30, 2014 - link

I'm looking for real test results, not conjecture. Anandtech could settle the issue by doing a 4 point test along the buttons. I'm guessing it bends at that spot with just 30 to 40 lbs. of force. Generic performance and battery tests, any review site can do. This is Anandtech, so I expect more in terms of technical nitty-gritty.
  • yofa42 - Tuesday, September 30, 2014 - link

    +1
  • Parhel - Tuesday, September 30, 2014 - link

They plainly stated in the article, if you care to read it, that they're not going to destroy phones for the purpose of this review. So you'll have to get your "technical nitty-gritty" elsewhere.

The link you posted is disingenuous. It's astroturfing, a "viral marketing" advertisement.
  • joe_dude - Tuesday, September 30, 2014 - link

Oh please. Joshua simply glossed over the issue without mentioning the video that started the whole #bendgate debate. Give us some hard numbers to show whether there really is a weak spot that would be prone to bending. Many people want to know if it really is an issue. Anandtech should help settle it once and for all. That's what Anandtech is supposed to be about - products that are thoroughly reviewed!
  • Alexey291 - Tuesday, September 30, 2014 - link

Nah all we're getting now is engadget style clickbait reviews with predictable (aka forced) conclusions.

I am betting that every device (unless its REALLY crap) will get the same kind of "its the best device to buy right now" conclusion.

Because you know... Anandtech's looooong since sold out.
  • Parhel - Wednesday, October 1, 2014 - link

It's hard to find a single review on Anandtech where somebody doesn't accuse them of being paid off. Doesn't matter if it's a hard drive, a video card, a phone, an OS. There's always somebody ready to make a baseless accusation without any evidence. That's the Internet for you. It's made everybody an expert in everything.

But, you know, some guy on Youtube bending iPhones . . . that's a guy we can all trust, right? I've seen the videos too. I wouldn't buy a car from that guy, I can tell you that.
  • OreoCookie - Thursday, October 2, 2014 - link

For a scientifically conclusive test, you need to destroy tens of iPhones. That's an investment of a five-digit amount. Moreover, if AnandTech's phone is a review unit, they need to return it -- intact. Consumer report has at least quantified the force it takes to bend and break for a single phone and, important point, compared that to other phones. The tested iPhones 6 and 6+ were more robust than an HTC One M8, a phone for I have yet to see a report that it has a propensity for bending and breaking. Every single year the tech press finds something wrong with iPhones (e. g. the iPhone 4's antenna), to the degree that much more significant problems (e. g. the botched iOS 8.0.1 update) disappear in the bendghazi cacophony.
  • InTheBoilerRoom - Tuesday, September 30, 2014 - link

Is there a particular reason that the Nokia Lumia 930 and 1020 were not included in the camera comparisons for the iPhone 6 and 6+? You have results for both (posted in the 920 review) and those are much more relevant benchmarks than the other phones included. I'm more interested in how close Apple's cameras are getting to the class leaders than to middle of the road phone cameras.
  • underseaglider - Tuesday, September 30, 2014 - link

Apple has always set the bar to the highest when it comes to their models. They always make sure they come up with the first of its kind and iPhone 6 has been creating buzz even it was questioned with its bendability.
  • trynberg - Tuesday, September 30, 2014 - link

"They always make sure they come up with the first of its kind"????

Hello, mainstream Android has had screens larger than 4" and phablets for 3 years. Many of the features in iOS 7 and iOS 8 were directly cribbed from Android. Apple has a nicely curated experience but give me a break.
  • trynberg - Tuesday, September 30, 2014 - link

No mention of any of the software bugs? No mention of apps not working properly with the new screen. A blanket assertion at the end of the review that says this is the best phablet with zero justification as to why this is better than a Note or G3?

I would think Anandtech would work extra hard to make sure they are neutral towards Apple when your owner and another long term writer both left to work for Apple. This review doesn't come across as neutral.

There are legitimate criticisms of any phone, Android, WP, or Apple, and I didn't see any listed here.
  • cwolf78 - Tuesday, September 30, 2014 - link

Exactly. I've been slowly questioning the credibility of this site more and more. There was an obvious Apple bias when Anand and Brian were still here. I was hoping that would stop when they left. But I see more of the same. I'm not disputing that the iPhone 6 Plus is a great phone in its own right, but to say it's the best "phablet" on the market when it doesn't even have any demonstrable phablet capabilities? There's a lot more to a phablet than having a bigger screen. How about a stylus? Multi-window or split-screen support? Actual real multitasking? How about taking notes or sketching? How in the hell is this the best phablet on the market? You can't just claim something like that without backing it up and expect to be taken seriously.
  • joe_dude - Wednesday, October 1, 2014 - link

There has been a slight pro-Apple bias ever since Anand started using Macs years ago. But it was never really an issue, since the testing was unbiased. Just ignore the pro-Apple conclusions, and it was all good. Glossing over problems is not what Anandtech is (or was) about.
  • nerd1 - Wednesday, October 1, 2014 - link

Anand ALWAYS showed secret apple bias for years, by selecting which results to show etc (He always showed results that are favorable to apple devices). Take a look at the surface 3 pro review. He compares its IPS screen to macbook air's TN screen with TERRIBLE viewing angle and says SP3 has worse color accuracy than MBA.

And now it just became more obvious so that anyone can notice. It's sad.
  • hlovatt - Wednesday, October 1, 2014 - link

You say the Anand review was biased against SP3 yet in the conclusions he says:

"I was a fan of the original Surface Pro, and with Surface Pro 3 I think Microsoft has taken the hardware much closer to perfection."

Sounds like he likes it a lot to me. I take it that to you any criticism of the SP3, no matter how minor, is a sign of bias.

If you really want to see bias, I suggest you look no further than the nearest mirror.
  • nerd1 - Thursday, October 2, 2014 - link

SP3 is the best windows tablet devices ever, and he does not deny that. Yet it is just totally and absolutely absurd to compare SP3's 1440p IPS display to MBA's 900p TN display with terrible, terrible viewing angle. And he did, only showing test results favorable to MBA (like color accuracy when viewed DIRECTLY front of the screen)
  • hlovatt - Thursday, October 2, 2014 - link

I think you see bias everywhere you look.

He compared it to a number of devices: MBA, rMBP, and Air. The display of the SP3 came in better than MBA, but worse than the others, and that is what he said:

"Overall the Surface Pro 3 display is a huge improvement over the previous two generations, but it doesn't quite meet the high standards set by some of the other competitors on the market today from both notebook and tablet spaces."

I don't see bias in this, he just chose a number of broadly similar devices that lay from the cheaper MBA and Air to the slightly more rMBP, that seems fair and balanced to me.

And "we can't have a serious discussion about 'bendgate' without any force data"? Yes, surely people with 6 Plus' in their pockets who now have bent phones exerted Incredible Hulk levels of strength using their thighs & hamstrings in order to do so.

How come iphone 6+ is the "best" pablet? It is larger than 5.7" note 3/4 yet having smaller screen, has lower resolution, has no active pen, has no battery and storage expansion, has worse camera and so on. Oh and it bends easily too.

I don't see the point in lying about that when the specs are readily available.

    Note 4: 153.5 x 78.6 x 8.5 = 102553.35
    iPhone 6+: 158.1 x 77.8 x 7.1 = 87331.28

The Note 4 is 17.4% larger, while the screen is only 3.6% larger.
  • nerd1 - Thursday, October 2, 2014 - link

LOL.. who cares volume at a all? Is slimmer phone any better to grip and carry at all?
Area and width matters, and 6+ is a good 5mm taller and only 0.8mm less wide than GN4, which makes 2% larger in AREA than GN4.

    158.1 >153.5
    158.1*77.8 >153.5*78.6

    LOL...get a clue!

When Ford builds a V8 engine do you really think it holds up to ones built by the likes of Porche or Ferrari??? Do you think your 40,000 car can compete with one that costs 400,000.

Like so many others, your are obviously upset at the fact that you can't afford, or refuse to pay more for these handsets. You are also swayed by raw numbers as opposed to real life performance.

Apple doesn't need a low end 13 megapixel camera to take great shots when it can accomplish the same result with a properly built 8 Megapixel sensor, that's been optimized fully.

The operating system is so tightly programmed that it doesn't require 4 cores and 3 GB of ram to outperform the competition.

Android is a Mal & Spyware riden operating system with over 1 million corrupt apps and counting. It's the Windows of mobile computing. Sloppily written and full of security compromises.

When Apple updates its software everyone who owns any previous models is immediately included, unlike Android users that have to wait years, if they get them at all. Let me guess...you're still on Jellybean "1 point who cares" !

Comparing a quality built product to one built out of mediocre scraps is beyond ridiculous and only goes to prove you refuse to grasp reality.

Let's not even get started on the smartwatch debate...that's a definite dead end for you, given the crap other companies have put forth so far.

I'm not trying to put you down, as you appear to be trying to do to others, with your less than well thought out rant...just hoping at some point you get the chance to remove the blinders.

    Best of luck with that!

Based on Nürburgring lap time results, Gv6 is ~10 sec slower than low-end porsches (8:30 vs 8:40), so I bet the v8 version can easily keep up with 310HP baseline panamera at tracks. Maybe I am wrong.
  • nerd1 - Wednesday, October 1, 2014 - link

Also current android flagship (with snapdragon 805) is FASTER than iPhone 6+ in terms of multithread load (which anandtech never tests for some curious reason), and their browsing performance is on par with iPhone 6+ when tested with their STOCK browser (yet anadtech only tests with chrome, which is 2X slower)

Camera is simply no match. Take a look at DXOMark individual scores. iPhone 6/6+ has both lower acuity (resolution) and higher noise than galaxy S5. It got high score for autofocus, which *curiously* made the total averaged score to the top.

And apple devices are suffering greatly from lack of memory, which is even worse with 64 bit address set (which eats up 20~30% more memory). A simple test is opening multiple tabs in safari and going through them. You will see them refresh ALL THE TIME due to lack of memory.

I know iDiots can't understand this and won't listen anyway though.

"Unfortunately, the included charger is the same 5W charger that we've seen for years now. As a result, the iPhone 6 Plus is constrained by the relatively low maximum power that it can put out. Those that wish for faster charging should look into getting an iPad A/C adapter as the iPhone 6 Plus will charge faster when connected to it."

how-much did the rotten fruit company pay you for this review?

I know you won't reply to this, but just for the sake of argument, granting that you will, and you say that you're not making any excuses whatsoever, when Galaxy note 4 an Edge come to your hands for review, will you also defend all of the possible flaws that you may be able to discover? and also for the massive features and capabilities of the two note devices, for the sake of utmost fairness, oh well, if you really are in the first-place, and you indeed insist, will you also praise them?, and say like this, or that feature is awesome or something to that effect? or you just say that this, or that, is nothing compare to your product, but a bunch of gimmicks!

…Just a piece of advice, if you care to listen anyway, whatever you're gonna say when that time finally arrives, don't be too obvious...…
  • Parhel - Thursday, October 2, 2014 - link

Not sure what you're getting at, really. They were calling them out on the fact that the included wall adapter sucks, and that you can charge your phone twice as fast with an iPad adapter. A lot of iPhone users (most?) already know that and buy aftermarket A/C adapters. I know I do. It only changes the recharge time, not the performance of the phone or the benchmarks or anything else.

I very much welcome the 6+. My eyesight is not what it was and I don't like the portrait size keyboard on my 5. Just a little too small. I do feel that the many senior users of iPhones will welcome this phablet model and that the large size of this segment of the market is being overlooked in many reviews. A mature market will have three sizes of phones. Small for girls, children and those with small hands. Middle size for most of the market and large size for those who have eyesight and accessibility needs short of disability. Many people like me have waited for this Iphone phablet..
  • KuyaMarkEduard - Thursday, October 2, 2014 - link

Allright then. however, if you could wait, just a little bit longer, you then may be able to choose between Samsung's Galaxy Note4, or the Note Edge; whichever you like, and it would certainly get, a lot more of your money's worth..., just too many to enumerate!

you know what?, hmm I guess you don't anyway… to all passionate but very insecure Apple fan-boys out there pretending not to be?, I feel so pity on you… and I sympathized so very much with your utmost agonies and sorrows……… and even much difficulties justifying the shortcomings of your iPhones. just to inform the Apple employee who also happens to be the owner of this website, I am not, and surely not, a Samsung employee, nor even affiliated to them in anyways possible! the only reason why I prefer the two Galaxy Notes of Samsung is because, they are the latest, they have the greatest, AND, they have the most technologically innovative products, scientists and engineers this world has to offer right now! Isn't it that hard to understand?…, either you honestly don't know, or you just can't accept the truth. google it, so that you will know, who is the top 10 countries in the field of mathematics right now, if you want to know why Samsung is leading when it comes to technological innovations today…, the why behind the what! So don't call me a Samsung fanboy, for I only wanna have the best, the latest, and the greatest for myself, and nothing else!…

  • Golfmann - Friday, October 3, 2014 - link

Great review, as always! Anand was telling the truth! This is still a trustworthy website.

I'm still waiting for my 6+ (coming 3-4 weeks). This is my transition from my old 4s. Around me, there are iphone users leaving for android as well as android users leaving for iphone. I guess it is about choice, task and maybe also brand loyalty.

Personally, I think I would not consider leave iPhone for Android this year. I need a lot of applications on my device and Apple is treating their application developers really well, then this results a lot of great apps on iOS. This, in my opinion, is the strongest motivation keeping me stay with iPhone.

Android is growing. But it still cannot provide me the great application experience as I get from iPhone.

"I guess it is about choice, task and maybe also brand loyalty."

You are definitely right Sir Golfmann. But you know what triggered me to react and commented this way?, because of these remarks from a supposedly, fair WEBSITE!:

“The first is that in the case of the iPhone 6 plus, there appears to be an area near the bottom of the volume buttons that is a weak point as we see a clear failure of the casing in this area. However, it seems that there is a significant amount of force needed in the first place in order to cause permanent deformation."

REALLY?!? Just take a closer look and see how fair and unbiased this website is as they claim, at least when it comes to Apple of course:

“"Now kids are doubling iPhones in Apple Stores: boys age 15 put the stress test at 6 Plus - and break into the process

Video shows teens Norwich Apple store bending Phone

They use so much pressure that the phone display is out

The boys take a shop worker if an iPhone 6 plus can double

Apple employee denies the claim saying it is a "internet rumor’

Apple has acknowledged that there are problems with the new iPhones bending

Cupertino-based group says it has received nine formal complaints

To prove the claims, Consumer Reports (CR) used 'three-point bending discovered test'CR HTC One (M8) and iPhone 6 are the weakest phones

Rumors about Apple iPhone 6 Plus bending show no signs of dying down.

Now two teens have decided to defect reports of alleged phone in their hands.

In a five-minute video, two boys of 15 years old, walk into an Apple store to try to bend a gold iPhone 6 Plus.

They use so much pressure that the phone display is out, making teens who say they have to flee or “would have ended up paying for it."

The boys, who are considered to Norfolk, then ask a store worker whether or not it is an iPhone 6 plus could bend.

It is believed that the thinner pattern, and the use of aluminum metal in the design, makes the frame to deform.

But Apple employee denies the charge saying it is an "internet rumor."

One of the teens involved in the video says: "The reason why we were laughing because it was really fun.”

"We were at the Apple store bending and breaking your iPhone, which I guess is a criminal damage, but I do not care, to be honest.”

"It's not Apple's fault - they are false advertising, saying it's the best iPhone but clearly it is not whether you can fold in your hands or pocket is ridiculous.."

The duo are not the only ones who try to bend the iPhone 6 Plus, with reports suggesting damaged iPhone can be seen along the Apple stores.

Some customers have even tried to bend the supposedly less prone iPhone 6 Apple has not commented on the matter.

Apple has acknowledged that there are problems with the new iPhones bending in some circumstances, but added that he has only received nine formal complaints.

The experts at Consumer Reports recently suggested some of these claims may have been exaggerated.

During their own stress tests, they found the iPhone 6 plus can withstand more force than was previously claimed - and more robust than the HTC One (M8) and the smaller iPhone 6.

The first reports of iPhones bendy began on Wednesday last week when photos appeared online showing the top of the device out of shape.

YouTube user Hilsenteger Lewis then published a video showing the iPhone 6 Plus Flex using just your fingers, which has already been viewed over 45.3 million times.

To put these claims to the test, Consumer Reports used a so-called "test three point bending."

This involved telephone support at two points in each end before applying a force on the top of the device.

Besides the iPhone 6 Plus, the researchers tested the iPhone 6, HTC One (M8), G3 LG, Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and iPhone 5.

Despite the claims, the HTC One (M8) and iPhone 6 devices were the weakest.

They began to warp and bend when a total of 70 pounds (31.75kg) of force was applied.

The iPhone 6 Plus was third, at 90 pounds (40 kg), followed by LG and G3 iPhone 5 at 130 pounds (59kg) and the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 150 pounds (68kg).

The iPhone 6 Plus results show the phone can support 15 pounds (6.8 kg) more strongly than initial reports suggested.

Consumer Reports said that this is more than one fourth of force needed to break three pencils.

Apple to criticism and complaints last week about its iOS 8.0.1 update is also faced after it caused problems with sensors TouchID new phones and data services.

The update was withdrawn, and the problems that now must be resolved by updating to iOS 8.0.2.

Following the reports, and the controversy #bendgate Twitter, Apple spokeswoman Trudy Muller said: 'with normal use, a curve is extremely rare and iPhone through our first six days of sale, a total of nine customers have contacted Apple with a folded iPhone 6 Plus'

Apple shares closed almost 4 percent to $97.87 (£ 60.26) Thursday, ending nearly $23billion (£ 14.1billion) in market value."”

and then here is Marques Brownlee, trying at His utmost best, to somehow, possibly justify; as clever as He could (to not become sound obvious of course), by suggesting an alternative, to put it in a case, which will for (the) most obvious reasons, add another investment for guess what, A.P.P.L.E.'s GAIN!
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s3QcOSyD38M

    #2. Still accusing… but this-time, excusing; and defending as-well!

Defence and Excuse #2-a. "It’s clear that in the case of the Galaxy Note 3 that a great deal of the structural rigidity is tied to the display itself, so the case doesn’t quite provide much in the way of protection as the polymer used is clearly in the elastic region all the way to failure. LG seems to have a different design though, as their polymer material has a clear case of brittle failure at the limit, which saved the display from shattering."

Excuse and Accuse #2-a/b. "It's certainly possible to bend the iPhone 6 Plus (or really any phone or tablet), but the real issue here that hasn’t been addressed is the level of force needed to cause a certain level of elastic or plastic deformation in the material." Really.

Defence and Excuse #2-b/c. "There’s also no mention of force per unit area in any of these figures, so we can’t really have a serious discussion about this issue without the necessary data."

Defence and Excuse #2-c/d.

#3. This time, not only Excusing and Defending; but also, Promoting and/or Advertising!!

Promoting and Advertising #3-a. "Those that wish for faster charging should look into getting an iPad A/C adapter as the iPhone 6 Plus will charge faster when connected to it." Ohs, you mean every iPhone 6 plus users must need to buy an iPad to possibly enjoy faster charging? Why are they just didn't include the necessary A/C adapter in the first place!

Promoting and Advertising #3-b. "While the software differences are definitely smaller than what we see on the Galaxy Note line, Apple has managed to do enough that most won't notice a significant difference one way or another." Sure?

Promoting and Advertising #3-c. "Even though this seems to be the only application of OIS, Apple has managed to make the overall camera experience better in a way that ("no other OEM has")."

Promoting and Advertising #3-d. "Once again, it's pretty easy to see the strength of Apple's integrated hardware and software approach as it's only a matter of time before most applications take advantage of the iPhone 6 Plus' additional screen size." Hmmm. As per Jonathan Morrison, and to others who know and have the inside knowledge about the Apple P.R. thing, to Anand and Joshua Ho: how-much are your commission on this review?, and for defending and promoting the iPhone 6 Plus in the most clever ways possible, in the name of (Fair), (Honest), and, (Unbiased Review)? Can I have some?, so that I can buy the Galaxy Note Edge and the Galaxy Note 4 on October 17? Heheheheh kidding aside; for I know you won't anyway…

Hmm but wait, there's more; actually, one more:

Promoting and Advertising #3-e. "If you have to buy a phablet now though, the iPhone 6 Plus is the best one available." Tremendously Perfect indeed!…

…Now, anyone still, call me a Samsung fanboy? Shame on you!

Hello Sir Golfmann. before you conclude that this site is, and will still offer the fairest, and the most unbiased review when it comes to Apple, you may want to take a look at this, and then, decide, if you can still, make this a trustworthy website, if it pertains to Apple's product:

AnandTech founder Anand Shimpi joins Apple:
The founder of one of the most in-depth mobile and computer tech sites, Anand Shimpi, is hanging up the tech journalism gloves as he joins Apple.
Founded in 1997, AnandTech is widely renowned for its technical analysis of personal computers and, more recently, mobile phones.
Shimpi posted his retirement from tech writing on a post on his site over the weekend, but did not mention joining Apple at that time. Since then, the Cupertino company has confirmed that the he will be joining the Apple fold. Specifics as to what his actual position will be are still unclear, but it is known that he will be joining former AnandTech senior smartphone reviewer Brian Klug, who also left for Apple back in February.
Anand Shimpi has built gradually a reputation as one of mobile tech’s most authoritative figures, and has even consulted with manufacturers to improve hardware products like solid state drives. It’s expected that his extensive knowledge of device engineering and industry connections are what made him an attractive hire for Apple, where he will likely contribute to the improvement of iPhone and, potentially, wearables.
Now what do you think? Can you still, boldly say that this, is a "Great review, as always! Anand was telling the truth! This is still a trustworthy website."?

Geeze after an Apple review the haters sure come out in force. I have a iPhone 5s, and a Samsung Galaxy S4. I think the 6+ is gonna be awesome.

Both my S4 and 5s are great phones- just different. The S4 is my work phone and was issued to me by my employer. It has higher resolution, and a faster proc. But you know what? You cant tell. Side by side screen comparisons of the same app or website or photo (and I've done it many times at work during just such arguments like all these posts here) you really cant tell a difference. OK maybe a slight difference sometimes, but not that much. In fact sometimes the 5s even looks crisper or sharper. Its hard to explain but it does. On a 24" IPS monitor, the difference in resolution would be much more noticeable, but on a device that you hold in the palm of your hand...not so much. Come on, the 5s's display is freaking awesome so the 6 and 6+ are going to look great. Don't focus so much on "oh the + is only 1920x1080" - who cares. Also I've never had any crashes or problems on my iPhone 5s. Ever. I carry it all the time everyday even if I probably use my S4 a little more for calls. The 5s is my personal phone so family/friends call me on it. The S4 however, has locked up on me, crashed, and I've had several other issues. But I still love it mind you, and it looks like I will be getting an S5 shortly here at work.

But everyone should stop being such a fanboy. Get the phone you want. Don't try and slam the iPhone as being buggy and not as good as Android based phones. It just simply isn't true. And you cant hardly call me an Apple fanboy either, I'm using my S4 right now.

It's amazing to see so many Apple vs Android again.
I think one just need to be aware the business model of each and everything follows that.
Android profits from ads, that's it. Which means your personal information is collected by Google for its giant network of search and ads. Their CEO once publicly said when asked about concerns that Google gives away Android for free, he said "we swamped the market with so many devices and you think we can't think of a way make money out of it?"

If you are comfortable with that (Google scan every piece of your personal information), then Google platform is a great choice. It's nothing to do with security, your phone can be really secure for others but Google is still reading it.

In comparison, Apple has no motivation to read your email scan your typed keywords etc. because it's profit model is simply selling devices.

In this world business model follows where money follows. For Apple users are consumers, for Android users are products. Think about it, all we are debating to death are result of that root cause.
  • ccd1 - Thursday, October 16, 2014 - link

Here is my take on it.

    1) Arguing over specs is a waste of time. In terms of performance, both get the job done for the vast majority of users.

    2) The Plus is one of the best phablets out there. If we were talking about any company other than Apple, this would be considered a great achievement for a first try. However, the Plus is an Apple product where we expect Apple to come late into the game, but totally change the market. Thus viewed the Plus is a fail because it is a very good phone, but not a game changer as past Apple products have been.

    3) The choice comes down to two things: the operating system and the stylus. IOW, do you prefer the integration and user friendly interface of iOS or the customization of android? Do you need the stylus or not. Answer these two questions and you probably know which device is best for you.
  • ccd1 - Thursday, October 16, 2014 - link

Forgot to add that the fight between Android/Note 4 and the Plus overlooks the other announcement this week that Google will be introducing the Nexus 6 which will be a premium phone this time around. It could be a game changer, though I doubt it. More likely, it will be a platform to show off Android L and will be a good or very good phone. The smartphone market may now be so mature that there are no big surprises left.
