NVIDIA Launches New Game Bundle: For Honor & Ghost Recon Wildlands

The gaming scene tends to be slow this time of the year, and some may still feel burned out from Christmas spending, others still feel like giving. Leading up to two more big budget releases that are fast approaching, NVIDIA has prepared another bundle for those considering an upgrade to their gaming hardware.
The “Prepare for Battle” game bundle is launching today. Anyone who purchases a GeForce GTX 1080, GTX 1070, or a PC or laptop equipped with these cards will have the option to download either Ubisoft’s For Honor or Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands for free.
For Honor is a fast paced single and multiplayer action game that pits together Knights, Samurai and Vikings in hand-to-hand combat, requiring tactical thinking and fast reflexes. At the other end of the technology spectrum we have Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands, the next step in a franchise that has been running for almost long enough to drive. ‘Wildlands’ is pitched as the very first military shooter in a massive open world that you can play entirely solo or in four-player co-op. For Honor will see release on February 14th, while Ghost Recon Wildlands will arrive on March 7th.

NVIDIA is also debuting a new, and hopefully easier, way to redeem codes through GeForce Experience. Now customers will no longer have to wade through sign up webpages but can simply enter their code within GeForce Experience itself and have their choice of game automatically added to their Uplay account. Though I imagine one would still need to be signed into GeForce Experience, which for some may make the difference moot.
We haven’t yet received news to how long this offer will run, though we will update here when we catch news of the end date. Meanwhile it is worth remembering to verify the participation of any vendors purchased from as NVIDIA likely will not give codes for purchases made from sellers that are not participating.

I don't get what would NVIDIA do that? AMD don't have a comparable card to either 1080, 1070 or 1060 6GB, so NVIDIA have pretty much no competition.(AMD's new) VEGA GPU's are expected to hit the market in late June 2017.
So, why bother?

Don't forget that NV's leadership has to answer to its shareholders. If sales have slowed a bit, executives are going to start seeking ways to live up to forecasts since missing those targets can put them in uncomfortable positions when the board starts looking over the company's peformance.It's more than just external competition the folks at NV have to deal with.

It helps keep MSRPs up. If sales for 1080s and 1070s are slow (which isn't uncommon in Q1), they can either drop the price or provide a value-add like a game bundle. The problem with price cuts is once MSRP drops, it's almost impossible to get it back up. It is actually very smart. Consider you are in the market for a new GPU, but would like to wait for VEGA so you have better options to choose from. There will also probably be some pricecutting and you would like to save a few $. But now you see a special deal where you get a brand new game for free. I got an idea instead of putting these game bundles out maybe release the desktop version of the 1070 with the Same Cuda core count as the mobile version. It seems funny the laptop version which is the same as the desktop version would have more Cuda cores in it. Yes I know Nvidia stated oh that is to make up for the down clock because of going in a laptop device. Not good enough either release it as it should be or don't release it at all. We all expect the mobile version of chips to be slightly slower than their desktop counter parts that is the way it goes. Hmmmm.....Not sure why that would be necessary when redeeming codes through GeForce Experience little Buddy?
But then, I'm not sure why AnandTech would delete my posts when I gave a bad review of Microsoft's DRM either as I thought the Law was recently changed to prevent retaliation for bad reviews ????
My posts also happened to be just one part of the "Management" portion of my Digital Rights Management regarding the oversight of My Application and Game Streaming technology
I wonder why Anandtech won't let me use "my" DRM to prevent Microsoft/NVidia and others from stealing my technology in direct violation of my License and/or contract agreements???

Awe that is so.....Anyways my point was instead of these game bundles maybe do the refresh release and maybe release the 1070 card less castrated at 1920 core it just seemed like an odd number to come up with and then when the laptop version was released that one had 2048 cores.If they released the desktop version at 2048 and the clock speeds it had it might have actually been a better card for 1440p and the go to card for a lot more people including myself. As it sits now because of this myself and a lot of others are just going to wait for either Vega or Volta so Nvidia missed the mark with the 1070 and a lot of sales as well. If they are worried about keeping to sales going then put something into the market more people will want these game bundles are just a band aid solution to a bigger problem.
I wanted to replace my card this time around but I was not willing to spend $1000 CAD for the 1080 and the 1070 just seemed to fall short on performance because they castrated just a bit to much & AMD has nothing in that performance range so here is hoping the next chips released are better from both companies.
