I stare at my computer screen, typing away at a Java project, until I grow tired of that particular project.
I then hop in my car, drive to campus, truck to a lab and work on my ASIC project until a similar feeling sets in.
Repeat the above two functions and that's what I'll be doing until Monday :)
Luckily, there are others who are doing much more interesting things that I'm sure you all would like to read about.
Derek should have a review of the Athlon 64 2800+ up in the next day or so, as well as a little Prescott overclocking investigation. Wesley is working on a new integrated chipset review, and while I'm taking exams you all will be reading about what Derek and I met with ATI about.
I've always said that it doesn't make sense to upgrade your video card until you've seen what both manufacturers have put forth. This methodology works extremely well since ATI and NVIDIA have relatively similarly timed product cycles. I've seen a number of people preparing to upgrade their computers based on the GeForce 6800 Ultra results we've published recently, but what I'd caution here is the same thing we've been saying for a long time - wait. At worst, you'll wait less than a month and be greeted with another NV30, at best, you'll save yourself some money :)
I won't tell you which one the outcome will be, but I'd just caution you to wait, just a little bit longer - we're finally upon the home stretch. Now if we could only get some good next-generation content to take advantage of these cards.

I am hearing at the B3D board of people "reviewing" X800XT boards already... is this FUD or has ATI changed their policy and sent out board samples more than 48 hours prior to their launch date??
I have only heard of the private "roadshow demos".

I'm just wondering...if Anand knew that the performance of the R420 cards isn't better than nVidia's nV40 would he be telling people to wait for the R420s??? I just hope that he does not know that because to me this "wait, wait" statement is pretty damn close to breaking an NDA. But on the other hand I don't get this NDA thing...what in the world could Ati be gaining by letting everybody wait for the expected performance of their cards while nVidias figures are out there?? My only explanation of that is that ATi doesn't want to show their performance - you hide what you ain't happy with. why even risk some fanatics->nVidiots turnovers if the performance is great??UlricT - Wednesday, April 21, 2004 - link
hmmm... I'm sure they've already started placing their bets in the forums. You just like to fuel the flames don't you anand? :DAdam K - Wednesday, April 21, 2004 - link
Hey Anand,Sorry to bother you again, I know you are super busy with all the school matters but I was wondering if perhaps you could address my query:
Is Anandtech ever going to review/test the Asetek Vapochill? I am suprised you guys have not yet. Is over the top/unncessary? I am thinking of buying one due to the increasing temps on newer processors, and wouldn't the Vapochill be a good long term cooling investment?
Thanks,
Adam K.

I have my doubts about the 800pro and its 12 pipelines going against a 16 pipeline nv40. But I'm never going to spend $499 on a graphics card in my life is it doesn't matter to me :). I'll wait even longer for PCI-E :pHolger Eilhard - Wednesday, April 21, 2004 - link
I like your way of covering things and I already hear the shouts of some guys begging for more details... :)
