AMD Releases Catalyst 11.8 Drivers

As with previous releases, version 11.8 is available for all 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows XP, Vista, and 7, and supports most desktop and laptop DirectX 10 and DirectX 11-capable graphics hardware.
The major addition to the driver suite this month is the ability to overclock your CPU using the AMD Vision Control Center - GPU overclocking was previously possible through the Control Center, but CPU overclocking was done with a separate AMD Overdrive tool. As before, software CPU overclocking is only possible for AMD Black Edition processors running on AMD chipsets.
Other improvements include performance increases in several games (including Crysis 2, Fear 3, and "Call of Duty Black Operations") on Radeon HD 5000 and 6000 series cards, and a handful of fixes for each operating system - the release notes are linked below, for those of you who are interested in specifics.
You can download the new drivers from AMD.com. Users of current drivers can also update them automatically using the AMD Vision Control Center or Valve's Steam service.

I just downloaded this latest released and tried to install it several times, but I either got a Blue Screen or an INF error. I've cleaned up after the previous driver with Driver Cleaner .NET, and I run 2 X HIS HD6950. I went back to the previous release, and everything is fine. AMD, you should test your crappy drivers better before releasing them!My config:
Core i7 2600K @ stock
ASUS P8Z68-V PRO
16GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600
128 Plextor SSD (M2)
Corsair HX850
Windows 7 Pro x64
Oh, and 2 X HIS AMD HD6950 2GB (each) in CrossFireX

I can install it without issues, but the CCC still tells me that I have the old driver.A single Sapphire HD6950 here.

AMD are doing it wrong if you still have to use 3rd party software in 2011 to get drivers to install properly. It's unacceptable.Anyway, AMD recommends to simply uninstall drivers first the usual way without using driver sweeper.
This is major problem with AMD drivers though. I've built over 100 machines this year, and a lot of the time theres problems getting AMD drivers to install, even on new Windows installs. Never have this with NV drivers.

When does AMD intend to fix the problem with Photoshop CS5 on Windows 7?Maybe I'll fix it by buying NVIDIA next time. After having AMD GPUs for the last 10 years I might jump on the other wagon next time because of that!!!

Uh what problem might that be?No problems here with CS5 64bit under Win7x64 on 2 systems, my primary workstation has a 6950 2GB and my work computer is using onboard HD 4250 graphics. No problems with either.

I installed the previous driver (it actually auto-installed) and then proceeded to cause system hangs. I didn't realize it was the driver until doing a whole lot of diagnostics and even reinstalled windows. I called into RMA the video card as I had narrowed it down to that. I had a second video card installed and when I went do download drivers for it I saw that they had relased a hotfix that didn't address my issues directly but the problems went away.I will give these a try but I'm going to wait a bit first.
