EFI Update Brings Lion Recovery to iMacs
by Andrew Cunningham on October 27, 2011 5:15 PM ESTApple has released a new firmware update for the Sandy Bridge iMacs that enables Lion Internet Recovery, allowing customers to connect to Apple's servers in the event that they need to do a clean install of OS X Lion. It additionally fixes issues with the Apple Thunderbolt Display and Thunderbolt Target Disk Mode.
Lion Recovery, designed to replace recovery discs in the post-Lion era, was originally introduced in the new MacBook Air and Mac Mini models earlier this year, and was extended to the Sandy Bridge MacBook Pros last month.
The update, which requires OS X 10.6.8 or any version of 10.7, can be downloaded using Software Update, or directly from Apple's support site.

I would also have accepted:
"How dare Apple require that people be running at least 10.6.8 to install an update to fix THEIR bug? Admittedly I am running OSX 10.3 on a 10 yr old PPC iMac, so this update doesn't apply to me, but it's the damn principle of the thing. I shouldn't have to pay for OS updates, and Apple should make sure fixes to THEIR bugs run on my OS."

You obviously don't know much about bikes, if it were about speed/price ratio the beamer wouldn't be in the running. Pretty much all motorcycles now (except the Italians) are limited to 186mph, and the S1000 price tag is higher than a lot of Japanese rivals including the ZX-14. On the smaller iMac systems I agree, they are charging a larger premium than many of us believe is necessary. But on that 27" model, don't forget that a decent 27" LCD that is capable of 2560x1440 will cost you between $800-$1000 if not more for a such a high quality panel as Apple's. So that doesn't right there pretty much debunks your "half that price" mentality.I can't stand people like you who think "freedom" means people are free to think and act as you think and act. Some of us are willing to pay more money things that look good, or go fast, or save space, or any other way you could comparatively describe physical objects in this world. Just because you don't like something doesn't mean it is wrong to like that thing. Drop your superiority complex and let people spend the money they earn on the things they want to spend it on.
Design is not a waste, and design is generally the premium you pay on Apple products. If you do not value design, that is fine and it is reasonable to see that as a "waste of money" if you don't value that design. Many people wouldn't consider the design of a $250 lian li case a bad thing. Many people would buy said case instead of the beige stamped steel box that generally sits around the entry level price points.
