Why are they charging me for what should be a service pack?solipsism - Monday, June 11, 2012 - link
I love how all major OS X updates are measly "service packs". I think people are just bitter that MS charges so much more for a major update, even a single license one, and only updates their OS sporadically.Malih - Tuesday, June 12, 2012 - link
which is probably why Windows cost so much more, because they charge for the service pack upfront.perspicacity - Tuesday, June 12, 2012 - link
Service pack or no, why do they charge at all?The Mac OS is Apple's "differentiator"... it exists only to make the Mac products different from other PC's. And for this, Mac owners pay a premium price... for which they should automatically get updates for free, in my opinion.
Apple is primarily a hardware vendor. Their software is there to sell the hardware. They could easily package their PC's with Windows instead of OS/X, and would end up selling a lot more of them... but at lower margins.
